Okay, ladies . . . I changed my diet up a bit this week. I upped the carbs a bit and dropped some fat. I'm getting 189g protein, 102g carbs, 40g fat (total 1524 cals). I'm interested to see how I react to it.

Now that my carbs are up, I'm thinking it'll be safe to up the intensity on the cardio. Is jogging okay? I know that for bodybuilders, it's the devil, because it'll cause them to loose too much size in their legs. But do you think it's safe to do some slow jogging while prepping for a figure comp? I'm not sure, but I'd love to get off the damn treadmill (I've been doing fast walking on an incline)!! And we don't have ANY hills around here- it's flat as a pancake :(

I think as long as you've got enough calories in your diet you should be OK. Jo (Stewart) runs all the way through her prep, and there's nothing wrong with her legs. :respect: Why don't you try a bit of intervals?

why did you change up your diet...just curious...not against it at all...i am totally for higher carbs!

i think you can add more HIIT now! but also keep some low intensity/long duration as well...unless you feel that isn;t working for ya!

why dont you mix it up and do like 2 min fast running followed by 2 min fast walking... instead of steady jogging!

Just an idea :o

We do running programs when we prep, but its never straight running.. its incline sprinting, jogging/sprinting intervals, etc.. I'd try and vary the intensity rather than just a straight Jog..!

I've done interval running-1 min job w/ 30 sec sprints. Right now I'm runnin 3 miles 2x week.

Yeah, I've been thinking that the intervals would be my best bet. I'll just add in some sprints with some jogging or fast walking. Thanks everyone for your input!

Bree- I decided to add in one week with higher carbs to see how I react. The other diet was working really well, but I have yet to see how I drop fat with this style of diet. I'm just learning through trial and error right now, and I feel like I'm far enough out that if I don't progress as well this week, I can go back to low carb and still get ready for the comp in time. I like how I'm feeling so far on this one . . . more energy and not as hungry :D I'm anxious to see what my progress is at the end of the week. I've definitely upped the cardio a bit this week, too.

Sprint intervals on a track really works for me. I'll do 10 100m sprints, then 2 200 meter sprints. I'll also throw in some backwards jogging and side shuffling for 100m at the end. I love to run however I need to maintain the size of my legs. Sprinting allows me to keep muscle but streamline them... it also is the only thing that gets my calves sore!!!
