How do we attract more competitors to our board?

Hhhhmmm, I'm quite happy with it as it is. You guys are so wonderful
But maybe some healthy recipes would be helpful. How other competitors prepare their diet food.
Also what exercises the competitors find are the best for adding mass or defining each body part, for example best ab exercises.
Thanks for a great site :awesome:

Yes, a recipe forum would be great!
I like the contests, so maybe more of those?
Truthfully, I think this is a fantastic board. Everyone is very respectful and friendly, there's lots of traffic, Sioux keeps everything all organized and pretty, and we have the hottest mods of any forum on here!!

But this board is great but I'd like to have info on traveling to events and a guide to watching shows.

About the contests...
If anyone has a product (the product has to be quality, and you have to have a solid reputation) that they would like to promote via a contest here let me know. I could set you up a forum and you could start up a contest for the folks here.
I had a recipe thread started already once :p

i would probably cry.....but there would be much rejoicing in the female physique industry, so i would smile again. if my loss is the gain of the masses....then so be it.

Hmm...I've got an idea.
How about a fan question thread? One fan asked a question (a legitimate question, not a stupid question) and the competitors on the board can answer.
There are things that most people want to know about the sport, but are too afraid to ask.

My two cents: Keep encouraging and supporting the competitors in the manner in which you have -- this is what keeps them coming back and makes them feel appreciated and everyone needs SUPPORT. You offer that and it makes a huge difference. Keep doin' what you are doin'.
I can't help with technical stuff, but you seem to have that part mastered.
Thanks for all that you do -- you, Sioux, and the awesome moderators. You guys are really supportive and it's priceless.
I hate to sound like a massive suck up, as that is not my style - but the board really is doing very well so far and is experiencing a very quick growth pattern. Let's be real - in this very short time this board has eclipsed numerous boards/female sections of boards that have existed for literally 10 odd years.
I would just keep going as you guys are. Sioux does a fabulous job here, and people will keep on joining and the board will continue to grow.

Just today we hit a new record. Quite amazing considering the most popular shows have yet to begin this year besides the Arnold. This board was needed IMO.

They are very busy in real life, but still take the time virtually everyday to help people here, invite new people here, and contribute a great deal to our awesome site!
And of course all you great folks who contribute to our site! This is a people's board IMO. The best example of this is the New York Fitness forum and Arnold Classic forum. Look at how many people who competed, or were there, contributed to those forums.
Thanks, CQ! :)

Totally agree. This board is great as is and it's the ony board I've contributed to as many times. Knowing most of the ladies already and having met several at the Met., was awesome and never happened before.
A new addition could be having a profile on a competitor posted every week or two or once a month with standard questions where we can learn more about them on a personal level and as a competitor, with maybe 2-3 pics posted. Maybe you and the moderators can just randomly pick someone and vote who would have the honor of being the "Siouxcountry Profile of the Week or Month" - good exposure too.:D

Sioux, you cannot do nothing to this but.. just a few words.
OK, this board is awesome - it really is. I do like the positive and supportive atmosphere here. BUT. Some are here in some cases even too supportive and positive when there is discuss about contest results/physiques. And if someone says something a bit negative (which in most cases is the truth) with objective eyes -> total ignore and he is the bad guy. Thats why I and a few others has no interest to talk so much about those issues any more. Please girls, be objective - even then, when it is your own or you friend's physique or placement we are talking about. And when someone says something ... like ... "In my opinion your quite low placement were totally ok, even if you have muscles and you were hard, because of your mid section and you dont have that good balance." - try to realize that it is nothing personal- this is sports.
Personally I am a bit tired to read threads full of "your physique is so perfect - I dont know why judges can be so blind" comments - in those cases when everyone with objective eyes can see why the placement was what it was. It is possible to be honest, objective and supportive at the same time.
But hey , I dont need to read those, so I am not complaining. Just something you maybe should think about for a few secs, if you want to have here more talk about contest results/physiques.

That was not the point actually. Let me give a few exambles.
Examble 1 - The way I hate it. ( No talk about physiques, just keep telling positive things and ignoring other comments"
Competitor: "I am not satisfied with my placement. I was bigger than the winner and harder than the winner"
Board member1: "Yeah honey, you are so awesome. You looked so good, judges were so blind. You were best."
Board member2: "Aww sweetie, you rocked on stage. You are perfect"
Board member3: "I think there was nothing wrong with placements. The top girls were better balanced and had better harmony than you"
Competitor: "Yeah jugdes were totally blind. I am so sad now" (totally ignoring member3 comment)
Board member1: "Dont care honey. Just go forward. Hope they see your awesome physique in next show and you win. " (totally ignoring member3 comment)
Examble 2 - the way I like it ( Talking about physiques, what should improve, not just blame on judges)
Competitor: " I am not satisfied with my placement. I was bigger and harder than the others. Any idea why I placed so low, someone who noticed something that I didnt?"
Board member 1: " Actually you looked pretty good on stage what I saw in pics. Unfortunatelly cannot say that much about placement"
Board member3: "I think there was nothing wrong with placements. The top girls were better balanced and had better harmony than you"
Competitor: " Yes actually I have tried to make my physique more balanced but there is still some work. Thanks for your opinion."
Board member 1: "Just work on, girl. Step by step you become better. Size and conditioning is there, now just concentrate on balance"
You see the difference?
It does not mean that everyone should leave constructive criticism. Actually if you dont know that much of issue, maybe better not to give it. But the attitude is sometimes a bit wrong here: just positive, positive and positive, blame jugdes, everything is so perfect and awesome, no matter what the truth is. And totally ignoring those who dont agree.

Don't assume people are purposely ignoring a comment. Everyone here makes comments that get no responses. I even start entire threads that get no replies.

Its a VERY fine line IMO though because with text you NEVER know how someone will take something or what mood they will be in when they read it. So some might get there feelings hurt easily or take things the wrong way etc.
I for one, LIKE the constructive criticism, how else would I know what to work on?!

No, I dont. But just gave my point why many do not leave comments in many threads.. I mean you asked how to get more "lurkers" to join and post here. A few european competitors/editors I told about this board and asked them to join...talking with them showed that many want "physique talk", change opinions. In my/their opinion "awesome, perfect, best," - is not that kind of "physique talk" we want to take part.
But maybe those are threads we dont even have to take part. :)
EDIT: In my opinion this is SPORTS. If someone runs 100meters in 15 secs time, he/she is not that good, right? And he/she wont get hurted if someone say that his/her time is not good enough. In same way this is sports and why should someone get hurted? The whole idea of this sports bases on how competitors look on stages, how big/hard/balanced/and so on and so on they are. I really do not understand why some should get hurting. And if they do, wondering if it is the right sport for those? The whole different thing is comments like "you are awful". Yes that can be hurted and in my opinion that is not good talk.

Constructive criticism is welcome here (people may comment back or may not), but...
What is not welcome here is when someone (not you) posts pics of the winner of a show, and calls her fat, all because someone he promotes didn't do well.

i agree with you and understand what you are saying. However, Sioux cant control how others respond/react on here. I agree this is a "sport". Nick (my Boyfriend) rips me apart every day. he keeps it real. im USED to that tho. some OTHERS may not be. and yes -do I think there is a lot of "fluffing" that goes on here? Yes! does it happen on MOSTLY EVERY BOARD? yes!
so my point is.. the only way this would change is if collectively as a whole the board choses to contribute constuctive criticism...it cant rest on sioux's shoulders.

I want to add that I did not say that we shoud change that all and stop giving positive / supportive comments. Of course that is needed and when it is not talk about physiques/contest results so that does not matter :) But what I hoped was a lil atmosphere change concerning feedpack of contests, contest results and physiques of the competitors in shows.

I understand where people are coming from.. I guess there is a fine line b/w being honest, and possibly offending someone.. But this is a public forum and everyone has a right to post exactly how they feel... constructive criticism is always welcome here.. and I think it is necessary in order to keep it real here.. .but you can't help when girls are very supportive of ea other, bc we are all in the same boat, and we are emotional beings!

You bring out a lot of excellent points with your post. Collectively, no one can control what anyone will say and sometimes other people struggle with being candid yet not offending. Or another way of putting it is being honest yet tactful in what you say. I speak for myself when I say that my impression here is that this board was created as a total positive support system for all the females FBB/FIT/FIG or any other sport. A response to the negative influences other boards may have had with regards to the female athletes.
I support the females 1000% and with that said. The board consciously or subconciously built an atmosphere of "We are Family" and "We're all friends and it is all happy and good" so much so that people get too comfortable and have regular conversations as long as it is knowingly unoffensive. This made it seem like an utopia for women here, a refuge from other boards where trolling was rampant. Like everything else, there must be balance. And by balance I don't mean the introduction of evil nastiness to counter the goodness. Rather just keep it real. Once in a while constructive criticism is good. Not just all sugar coating everything. The impression here by others is that there is a double standard for males. The females can joke and carry on here just fine but if it is a male, whether it was real or percieved, the slightest criticism or comment is met with a sanction or reprimand.
Bottom line is it is still a competition. And AnneP you are right. And I quote you here "In my opinion this is SPORTS. If someone runs 100meters in 15 secs time, he/she is not that good, right? And he/she wont get hurted if someone say that his/her time is not good enough." In a NFL or NBA or Euroleague(Soccer) forum, no one has to step on eggshells to voice their opinion with regards to the athletes and teams. There are still rules to govern behavior so negative behavior is not tolerated. And trust me, in their own way the moderators and admin are stricter than some fbb boards. If my comments came across as too frank, candid and blunt, it's because i was being totally honest with my opinions. I'm here in total support of the girls and if i was a billionaire, everyone who competes period will instantly have $50,000. Winners and top placers will be earning millions of $$$. On par with NBA,NFL,MLB players and professional boxers.

SC-- couple of things i've noticed that could be helped to improve the site.
1. When someone posts a link in their post, the link is displayed in the same color text as the post itself. Check out post #38 (yours), or check out my signature. That can be changed in the vBulletin admin panel. I think some links are going overlooked because of this.
2. On my site (way way smaller than yours, lol) I had it open to the public for viewing. There would always be 3 times as many guests on it as members. I recently closed it to guests (everything says "private") and the membership went up a lot. It worked for me, but honestly, I think you should leave yours open to the public. Your site is growing very fast, why mess with a good thing?
3. Contest schedule. There are WAY more contests out there then what you post up on your site. It seems to me that MOST competitors are looking for NATIONAL qualifying shows, or PRO-card issuing shows. I realize you can't post them all, but there are some good ones out there coming up, that aren't getting any coverage or notice on here. I'll give a few examples: June 14th, Rochester, NY , national NPC qualifier, Phil Heath, Jason Arntz guest posing. Late August, Cleveland, Ohio the IFBB North America's they give out 6 pro-cards there mens open, mens master over 40, mens master over 50, figure over 35, and top-2 figure open. That's 3 figure pro-cards, and the show is 14 weeks away!
4. Men. Closely moderate the men on here. I have seen womens sections on other boards simply ruined by idiots . I'm a guy so I think I have some good opinions on this.
5. Banner. Your banner is too big to post up on most other forums. I have 5 sponsors on my site, and each has a small banner exactly 150x40 pixels. They fit on the lefthand side of the forum. Check out this car site for a second, and see how professional it looks. They have their sponsors on the right side. Here's the link:
http://ls1tech.com/forums/index.php
BTW, it's 150 bucks for 3 months to advertise on that site, lol, yes they make serious money from advertising on that site, lol.
6.Sticky's. There are too many of them in the sections, and it seems like certain shows are way favored over others, no idea why on that one.
7.Myspace. Spend an hour a week friend requesting people off of it. Go to browse, click female, click bodybuilder and have at it.
8. The indian picture. I'm sure it's cool and all, but when I think of female bodybuilding, figure competitions, and fitness girls, a picture of a mid 1800's 50 year old indian chief doesn't pop in my head, lol. I think you should change the picture, maybe to a member on here, hell you could use that to promote your contests. maybe the winner of each contest you have gets their picture as the default image on the site and the myspace page for a few weeks, who knows.
if i think of any more i'll post up, just trying to help.

Oh, BTW, I just looked and you had 35 members and 53 guests on the site. Check the guests IP addresses. I'd be willing to bet A LOT of them are google bots, yahoo spiders, etc...those are VERY good things. It means they are latching on to your site so that when someone does a search your site will pop up higher. By setting your site to private you will hurt it's performance in a search engine.

When your cursor goes over the link it turns bright yellow. Unless I have the link in another color other than black.
Yeah I don't want to miss with it, as we are getting on average 10-20 new members a day. Few post though, but that's pretty much every board.
Oh I know there are a ton of contests out there. I don't have the time to post about many of them. I encourage promoters, and competitors, or fans to help.
4. Men. Closely moderate the men on here. I have seen womens sections on other boards simply ruined by idiots . I'm a guy so I think I have some good opinions on this.
I agree. All men are welcome here as long as respect is shown toward the women here.
I never thought of the above. I need to work on that. DAMN That site is a huge success!
6.Sticky's. There are too many of them in the sections, and it seems like certain shows are way favored over others, no idea why on that one.
I been mainly stickying the one's that have people here (as members) competing in them. If you want to help with that forum, let me know, and I'll make you a forum moderator.
7.Myspace. Spend an hour a week friend requesting people off of it. Go to browse, click female, click bodybuilder and have at it.
I agree. I spend quite a lot of time on MySpace. Many of the women here have been invited by me via MySpace.
Hahaha I know the image is weird but everyone knows my avatar.

This board's focus is the female competitor in bodybuilding, fitness and figure.
How do we attract more competitors to our board?
How do we get more people to unlurk and join the fun?
How would you improve this board?Just looking for ideas. :waving:
I think if we get some business cards and pass them out at shows...smile
I think we start a lurking thread...smile

Just chiming in here as non-competitor (yet) but word is spreading about your board.
I post on 4 different boards and I have seen mention of yours in one and pm'ed by others about it from a different board.
Pretty much it was said this site is THE site to be on if you want to go pro and or work on your national.
I have no intentions of either (I don't think) but I do plan on doing local bb shows and love supporting anyone and everyone who works hard. :awesome:
p.s. I would love to add your banner to my space Sioux if you think it will help?

I agree with all the other members that this board has surpassed many others when it comes to supporting the women in the sport.
One suggestion I have is the look of the main page/forum pages. The information at the top seems overwhelmenging and cluttered and you have to scroll down in order to actually get to the forums. Maybe move that information to the bottom? Or group under one clickable category? Do you think it'll be missed?
That's all I can think of for now. I'm so glad to be a part of this wonderful community!

The names under progress pics link to recent pics of the women who are in prep for a show. I think people like this feature. Red names are recent pics.
All pics link to a thread as well. And I know for a fact many people click on the pics.

Agreed. If you run a FORUM, you NEED forum topics in plain view on the first page of the website. You would be surprised how many people wouldn't be able to find it if you made a homepage with pictures on it and a clickable link to the forums. I think the pictures at the top look great! Especially since you change them up every so often, it keeps the site fresh looking.

It is great to have this board but, at the risk of getting nailed here, it is becoming inundated with Figurines...so perhaps have a separate section of FBB and Figurines?
I dunno, I just do not want this board to turn into all the others I visit, the same peeps whining about how they blew their diet last night with a cookie, etc...and all the sunshine blown up asses, etc...that stuf makes me not want to post....
I like a keep it real approach, no bs, hardcore training advice & info that invites pros to want to post up.
Have you considered a chemical enhancement section?

I know so few women who are open on the boards about the chemical side of bodybuilding. I think the topic indeed interests a great deal of women, but few will post openly about it. But yes I can create such a forum, if there is interest?
I continue to invite more women who compete in bodybuilding. It's difficult as few post anywhere, as I'm sure you are aware of. I can't tell you how many women I have invited, to only get a polite "I'll check it out", but end up never joining, or join, but never posts. I encourage you to invite women that you know who compete in bodybuilding to join us. Delphene is a member here, but she's told me she has little time right now to post.
So few female bodybuilding pros post anywhere. I could promote the pro shows so much better if just half the women would post, give updates, post some 4 week out pics, etc. Only two women who competed in New York are members here. It's a real shame so few pros take advantage of the internet and help out with promoting the various shows. I try to make the shows interesting, but I can only do so much. Now the show is over, and the question is will their be another one in 09?
At this time I have no plans to divide this board. Many figure competitors are indeed members here, but Lisa I can tell you they respect the hell out of the women who compete in bodybuilding.

I would also like to add to that some of us figure girls do train and diet like bodybuilders. From the post above I picked up a huge misconception and perhaps a generalization about figure. But I'll speak for myself and say that I have a lot of respect for women bodybuilders and hopefully one day I will make my transition and trade the heels for some bare feet on stage. At least my feet wont hurt like hell by the end of the night.
I do agree with wanting to hear some hardcore training advice, sharing routines, more tips on diet, etc. I'm particularly interested in hearing what FBB do during last week out from a show.
Ok, I'm shutting up again now. :p

Maybe if that forum was a request forum where you have to ask to veiw it. Maybe that way the ones who are not into talking about that side can avoid it, and the ones who feel that section would be very helpful to them can veiw and enjoy it. I understand how some are a little shy about sharing that stuff, but how will others learn? I think for some if it could be a very beneficial section.

I dont see this board as a figure board...
I see it as a board for female athletes/competitors...
The ones who want to post will post...
If they want to talk about falling off their diet so be it...
Thats why they have journals...
You dont have to read their journals...
If you want to start a thread on chemical enhancement then do it...but I dont think this board is about that....
Over the months this board has turned into a HUGE family...
There are other boards out there that talk about chemical enhancement...maybe you should join those...
I for one dont want to see this board turn like the other boards...

Even though I realize I'm just a fan and not a competitor, I tend to agree with the division argument in terms of dividing into separate FBB and Figure/Fitness forums similar to the format they have at MD.com. I fully well realize that EVERY female physique competitor works INCREDIBLY hard to create and then maintain their physique, regardless of the sport and regardless if they are in prep or off-season. BELIEVE ME, I'm not trying to be offensive, so if I come across as being that way it was NOT at all my intention. However, it just strikes me that since it seems that Figure/Fitness judges are looking for different things than FBB when it comes to physique; since the posing is different; and since FBBs do put on more mass than Figure or Fitness competitors, it does seem to make sense to divide this particular forum into separate forums for FBB and Figure/Fitness. I don't think that has anything to do with the superiority of any sport over the others: it's just the way I see it, if the forum was divided along those lines then those who log in here on either the FBB or Figure/Fitness forums will know that those info threads they see are written by those in their same sport, and would take into consideration the uniqueness of each physique sport. Again, just the opinion of a longtime fan and not a competitor, and hey, it's your board, SC. Your board, your rules: do whatever you believe to be right.

Hey Sioux,
I think you and the mods are doing a fabulous job with this board! I love the "family" type atmosphere we have here and how much positive reinforcement there is not to mention female unity. I can agree with AnneP about the constructive criticism...because for those who really want it... it's important to maybe mention that when post in the forums... maybe we can have an area where everyone keeps it real with regards to criticism. Fluffing is good and definitely necessary considering the constant criticism you're under at all times just being in the sport.
Another thought... I know Mel mentioned having a competitor of the week/month. Why not have board member of the week? Or... since you already have Pro of the week...why not have Amateur of the week as well?
Also... do we only support NPC competitors here or are other organizations welcomed as well? If so, we should get their contest schedules up to.
Overall I am really happy with the board and think it's a huge success...these are just some minor suggestions :)

Thank you! Love Love Love the up to the minute results & pics, etc!!
It is great to have this board but, at the risk of getting nailed here, it is becoming inundated with Figurines...so perhaps have a separate section of FBB and Figurines? Figure is way more popular right now, hence the higher membership of figure competitors on the board. I happen to think there are a LOT of female bb'ers on here though, probably a higher percentage than you think.
I dunno, I just do not want this board to turn into all the others I visit, the same peeps whining about how they blew their diet last night with a cookie, etc...and all the sunshine blown up asses, etc...that stuf makes me not want to post....
I agree with the sunshine up the asses part. Maybe have a section for "honest feedabck" or a "physique critique" section. Members could post pics and other people could give an ACCURATE assesment, without being rude. Things like "quads look great, taper looks good, might want to concentrate on bi's/tri's etc...". Have a few qualified straight shooters moderate it, and tell it like they see it.
I like a keep it real approach, no bs, hardcore training advice & info that invites pros to want to post up.

Whether or not people want to admit it, chemicals.....I hate that word.....drugs...I hate that word too(I like the word hormones)...are a real and sometimes necessary part of competition. The difference between coming in 1st at a pro show and coming in 3rd or 4th, is a HELL of a lot more than just the $$$amount of prize money. At least with a section devoted to it, people can make a more educated decision as to whether or not they can go down that path.

Sioux, you seen now what I meant when I critisized the atmosphere here in boards? Yes, positive it is. Sorry but I tend to disagree, FBB DO tain harder & diet harder than Figure.
LOL.
I always find people skirt around the issue, even myself, as a fitness competitor, like earlier posts in this thread..we always get put together with figure as though it is the same - and it's not, not one bit. The whole demands of the fitness routine we have to train and deal with, which is a lot of work. For some reason it seems to be 'politically correct' to act like all divisions are equally as difficult - when they are not.

I would love 3 different sections for bodybuilding, fitness, and figure instead of having them all lumped into one section. Or 2 sections if you want to lump fitness and figure together and have a seperate one for bodybuilding.

im late here but i had to reply.
well, yeah i do post in my journal when i mess up on my diet..i treat it as a journal and am comfortable enough with you all to be able vent my emotions and feelings i haev when i fail and have one of my binges and no i dont ot look for people to tell me it is ok, i truely post it bc it is a way of letting me vent it out for myself. it makes me feel better to vent it out. i also find that i am keeping it real. im not going to journal and let everyone think i'm ms. perfect who never, never strays or messes up on her diet.
and i am insulted on being called a figurine.
and yeah i hate bullshit and sunshine up my ass too..i hate it tons actually! and im all for more honesty and opinoins here but lets give each other respect. figurine is crossing the line. my gosh it is! ill leave right now bc i am getting way too mad about being called that right now.

I will say I obv missed this thread too and its better off because it carried through into the who trains harder thread and that turned in to a more "positive thread" lol
I have to say at first when I saw figurines my blood naturally boiled ;) but I also LOVE Lisa's physique, muscle, and work as a BB and can see where she's coming from. A lot of us know each other personally and know what we throw up in the gym or how hard we are on ourselves but it is easy to come in and read a journal and judge a book by one post... I have not been a journal supporter and I am a mod here mostly because of that, I am not one to go in and say keep slacking you're doing great! If you are lucky enough to slack and look great GOOD FOR you... but there is a difference between a lil slip here and there (or even a binge) like Andrea said no one is perfect and someone who just shows up sloppy because they didn't do the work. Some of these women participate in this sport to keep them sane, empower themselves, and have a goal... not only to win... and if you are more of the Hardcore BB type thats fine... I agree there needs to be a section for that too... I am natural but do I appreciate the chemical enhancement sections yes... because in five years when I'm 100% done have babies if I so choose to MAYBE I would just "like to learn" lol ... see people tiptoe around the subject to because it is a public board.
I ill say this there are some wonderful mods on this board a NPC judge, trainer, bodybuilder... a State champion Power lifter, and successful National level BB, a VERY brilliant young lady who has ENDLESS supplement knowledge and many competitors who love this sport (but a lot of us are still competing and need breaks from the boards often to focus on OUR GOALS). And Siuox really needs to be thanked and given credit for trying to build a board out of his pure love/admiration for the sport...nothing more, nothing less... But unfrtunatley you do need more than that for a board to suceed... you need substance and credibility to keep people on and as the board grows I see that happening. We have a national level judge on here ;) ... more pros have joined... WILL BRINK is here ;) TROY and KRISSY have joined  ...we're getting contest coverage like up to date...that was THE MOST fun in the Jr USA's threads. MORE trainers have joined, and we have learned not all trainers have to get along but common respect and appropriate discussion do need to take place in order for a board to run smoothly.
This board is new... it's finding it's groove and as people start stepping up to the plate and "finding their place" so to say, it will work out better IMO... hell I couldn't find something that was stickied because of a line that use to separate the page lol

Sioux....please go to the admin section (message posting and editing options) and lengthen the amount of time one has to edit their posts...sometimes people (me) need time....a day or so...or more...to re read what they have posted....that was the one thing I absofriggenlutely hated about MD....after an hour or so...you couldn't go back to edit your posts....I don't see why anyone would want to restrict anyone from editing their own post. I have mine set to 14400 (10 days).... Now...deleting is a completely different story. On my board only the admin...and not the mods can physically delete. The mods may soft delete.
As far as the board on the whole...it's just fine...although I would probably have just one section for competitions instead of each show having its own section....and I'd have a section specifically for pics..which I don't see here..but may have missed?...;)

uhhh...exactly where is that thread? A thread like that...should probably be a sticky...(unless it is and I missed it) ....as there's probably a lot of info there that could be very useful when a competitor is trying to "research" who they want or should shoot with....without having to have to go thru the whole board looking....just a thought....and again....maybe I missed it...
Perhaps there should be a section on the "industry" that covers management, contracts, photographers etc....a repository of useful info easily found...again..just a thought..:waving:

Yes this was something mentioned too the use of stickies and merging threads... often people who have been on boards for years NO longer post because its the same thing different day... but there are always new people who want to learn and will ask a question...not everyone can use the search option properly its actually quite tricky lol So if anyone is looking for something please let us know so that we can get it in the appropriate place instead of creating 39 threads on suits or 39 threads on shoes lol

I agree...this is a good board...lot's of input and opinons...but not a lot of debate...I find that most don't really want to debate because it reveals a lot about a person's position...and seeing as how this and other boards are "public"...meaning you don't have to be a member to read...certain people in the industry see comments....and unfortunately...hold them against certain competitors when it's time for competition judging...shouldn't happen at all...but trust me...it does....That's why I have an invisible board on mine...and the only way people can get in is if they have been verified by a mod....and I do mean verified!..i.e. by telephone etc...oh...and we don't like posers either...lol...some people will register as a female but in reality are not...go figure....???

I think the lack of debate here is what makes this a board many like cause a debate starts out normal and then turns into a sideshow and misses the point of what the debate was originally about. Seen that happen too many times on other sites.

Debate is somewhat necessary. If you feel someone is stating opinions as facts, or offering faulty advice, I think it is not only our choice, but perhaps even an obligation, to share knowledge and help out.
Additionally, that's the whole purpose of a forum; as a discussion board, it wouldn't make for a very interesting discussion if we all agreed on everything, particularly in a field with such varied specialties and genetics. If everything worked the same for everyone, we'd all be on the same diet, train in the same fashion, look the same on stage and tie for 1st place.

I totally agree. Also with regards to those who ask for "honest" feedback or critiques...
I remember being on a parenting message board with a woman who kept writing about how her man kept cheating and not helping with the kids blah blah blah... all her posts were so depressing to read. All the other women on the board said all these fluffy, phony things to her to soothe her and I wrote her the truth, as I saw it, which was anything but fluff. (Hey, what can I say... I'm from Brooklyn) I just *knew* I'd be the board enemy for doing it but I didn't care. Sometimes it is what it is. Turns out she sent me this very LONG PM telling me that my post was "shocking" BUT it "jolted" her "into reality". She thanked me immensely. And so did some of the other women (in PM's of course since they had to keep their phony facades for the sake of the board).
I'm saying all this to say that I agree that catfights are unnecessary but adults should be able to be honest and disagree and give people REAL feedback because although this is a board, we are real people with real opinions. And if you're asking for an opinion in a public place you should be mature enough to handle whatever comes your way.

It would be so nice to be able to speak out on things/trainers etc but you can't due to the politics that isn't supposed to exist in judging. It is hard to watch people making huge mistakes with thier training and diet but you just can't say anything. Plus even when you hunt at it some clients are so brainwashed to think that their trainers are gurus and there must be no other way

Sioux, why do you allow all shit-talk between parties here on your board?
I know, that its in our hearts and minds, that we believe what we read - we believe the writer. We believe what the forum members post here and we support them. But there is going on all the time many many photographer -photographer- fights, unclear things between companies and athletes and there are things between athletes and photographers and so on and so on. There are even competitors, who are very dissapointed on something and want to pay back...and websites and so on. This board has become more and more playground for such. I think it is NOT smart. We cannot know how the things really are, we dont know the facts. I know that many want to protect other girls, which is good, but u every time forget, that we dont know. Things can be totally opposite and without any truth! And in that case the result is not that what we want.
I dont mean any special case with this - only generally. In my opinion such threads should not be allowed - why in the hell you dont make things clear AS ADULTS DO between parties - NOT in discussion boards. You can always sue someone, thats the place where u can tell ur facts and show that someone has done wrong ... discussion boards is not right place for such.
Everyone can write whatever they want on boards. U understand my point? If I somehow hated sioux or this board, I could EASILY go to boards, english, german, finnish and swedish and so on boards and write that Siouxcountry didnt pay me, Sioux lied me about very serious things and I cannot do my next contest bc of him and bc of that I had to cancel very important shootings and they treated me like shit. I could easily make up some stories and post fake e-mails (its pretty easy..dont be so childish and believe everything)
So I think that this board would be better without those threads and posts.
EDIT: I loved this board before just because this was free from that shit - many other boards allowed it. Now this is doing the same and its :(

I can not just censor people because a few people don't like what they have to say. I don't see any of the photographers disrespecting any of the women here.

I tend to agree with AnneP ... maybe I'm just slow, but from where I sit, it seems that what is really going on is overflow from other boards, or at least from people that have much, much "history" between them ... history that is entirely unknown to me, and probably to many other members here.
Some of the "new" members, as nearly as I can discern, are very famous posters at other places, and that is fine. But because I don't read those other sites, these folks are still strangers to me (and, again, probably to many other SC.com members). I have seen no self-introductory posts from the people in question; it is as if we are already supposed to know them, and the history between them. But I (at least) don't ... which renders many of their verbal feuds incomprehensible to me.
What it feels like is that I was at a party, and a bunch of people to whom I've never been introduced just came in all at once, and that now the party has a much different ambience.
Anyhow, AnnP's post resonated with me.

A few things:
- Allowing that - is that really fair to everyone?? IMO ur job is to give same rules for everyone. And in my opinion making such threads not allowed would be good, fair to everyone and same to everyone.
- Yes as I said that protecting women is important.. but what about if that all is false? Not fair for anyone. Or is it protecting women if this board let some write totally false information of some people or companies or photographers? Hell no, every women competing is not that angel... what if some competitor is behaving the way which is against the contract and some from the company comes to board and write " Dont contract this girl" ? You gonna delete it bc it would be disrespect for girls?
- Is it the job of the board to protect women from making poor decisions? Yeah, with right info you can do that, but I dont think that allowing posting whatever without any evidence is the right way. And well, many girls gonna do those anyway.
- What is this? I can not just censor people because a few people don't like what they have to say. I don't see any of the photographers disrespecting any of the women here.?? No, the question is not if we like those posts or not. In my opinion everything that shit does not belong in the boards. And didnt I just said that I am not talking about special case.. so wasnt talking (only) about photographers.
Well, I have given my opinion. I loved this board sooo long time when this was free from all that shit talk in the industry - there still is MUCH interesting to talk about without those threads. It was the thing which was here so much better compared to other boards...EARLIER. But well, its ur board. Lets write what ever we want, no matter if it is true or false talk about someone in the industry. Let the playground bloooom!

Certain people have a penchant for "inside jokes" and "inside stories". This is what causes all the confusion here. As this board evolves and memberships rise, it is inevitable that new members in Siouxcountry.com will have cross overed from other forums as well, thus directly or indirectly continuing a discussion they may have started elsewhere.
While this has been happening recently because of issues involving the athletes and industry personnel, I suspect that at times other people deliberately introduce the inside jokes and inside stories, wink wink, nudge, nudge into topics. I have no proff it is deliberate. And that is why I said SUSPECT.
Maybe it should be a rule of thumb to include a backstory when discussing such inside information or just relegate it to private messaging. This way other posters will not feel left out or confused.

And why should they do it on the board? IMO thats really childish. One part complaining or all the parties arguing - why do u want to allow that ?
Just wanted to give my opinion how I would make this board better... (like u ask in thread).
This board is not sterile from negative events happening in the real life dealing between athletes and industry personnel. When I say industry personnel, i mean promoters, photographers, videographers, companies,et al.
Not long ago, Comments were being said about the board being way too nice and everybody patting each other on the back and it being one big family. That is what everyone wanted. To have a nice place to post devoid of negativity to one another and being respectful to each other. A safe haven or a peaceful place to discuss things without fear of trolls being rude and mean.
Until recently, there was no real drama or negative news other than murders and deaths being discussed. Since the intent is to protect all the competitors, Alli decided after some soul searching and a long thought out process to go ahead with what she said. She also gave the opportunity for the other party/s to respond.
This might not seem like a topic that everyone might read because of the negative fall out and ensuing drama but it was real and had to be discussed.
If the threads were deleted or censored, no one would know what her ordeal was. And no one else would come forward with testimonies that concurred with her statements. It is an ugly incident that had to be addressed. If this particular case was handled via PM, Then In my opinion it would have gotten a lot more confusing because some details would slip onto the main boards and no one would really know what was going on and they would would demand answers.
There is a fine line that Sioux walks when censoring and deleting posts and threads. But this had to be shown for all to see. And like it or not,is simply part of keeping it real. No different than giving honest, accurate feedback about a competitor. The key is to do it politely and tactfully. Now people being human, and feelings being hurt. It is not surprising that a lot of people became emotionally heated. That is a normal reaction to that situation. You cannot possibly expect people to still react coldy and logically about that.
On thing is for sure. This destroys the perception that this forum or board is all about fluffing the females and everything being sickenningly sweet and happy. Though we all love and support the girls, no one can mistake this as just a "you go girl" kind of board. Just to be clear, I agree with a lot of your ideas AnneP. So this is not be viewed as a dissenting voice. Rather a personal opinion on the matter.

I didn't think of her complaints as childish.
How many times I have to say that it was written generally?
If someone here knows me, knows also that I love that things are said like they are and actually I am not a fan of "happy happy yo yo everything positive shit"- talk. But as I said, smart people fix these things between parties, in court if needed, not in discussion boards.
Well apparently we gonna have these threads in the future too, so please forum members, do not jugde people/companies just bc of someone's post without any real facts /evidence. World is cruel, people are cruel...
