Elementary school I did all sorts of things: soccer, cheerleading, softball, gymnastics. Out of school I had horses, so I did a lot of riding.

High school I did more of the "hydraulic sandwich" and "bong" workouts with my friends. That wasn't a good time in my life. Should have done track and cross-country. I think I would have done fairly well.

Lacrosse was my main sport. I dabbled in some other things . . . field hockey, gymnastics, swim team. But in highschool, lacrosse was my thing.

In jr high I ran cross country, played JV basketball and soccer.

In HS I was a 3 season runner.

Now I hate running.

NOPE!

I wanted to be the 1st female NFL player. But, when I stopped growing at age 11 (110 lbs) I figured it a no-GO.

I hated to SWEAT anyways... So I STUDIED to assure myself decent academic placing for a future career that was guaranteed to pay $$$.

ha ha...i am the only one who did not do sports! im a shy fry, introvert and do not like team sports! which is why i love weight lifting. peeple are always surprised i was not a huge athlete or gymnast in high school.

i was a good runner and could have done very well in track but my small ass high school dropped the track team when i started hs. so my track career ended in 8th grade.

but i was alwasy interested in keeping fit. as a child i was small and lean but wanted to stay tight and have defintiiton i got into it in 6th grade. from using my little dumbbells in my bedroom 4-5 nights a week for my upper body, running, doing little leg toning moves i read about in magazines, i was rocking the abs and buns of steel video tapes, the ab roller and any other exercise tape! even doing jane fonda back in the day when i was 7 yrs old. i had my own purple and pink leotard and maroon leg warmers. i even have some oxygen magazines from 1998! boy how different they were then..way more about bb..i like it better how it was!

Ohhh how CUTE! lol That is really funny to visualize but very believeable! Thanks for sharing...that was cute.

I didn't participate in much sports except an occassional tennis game. If I could go back though, I would definitely go for soccer! When and if I have children one day, I definitely want to incorporate sports into their schedules.

I guess it's three of us.

I played some handball on and off from the age 10 but dropped out at 14 yrs. From then the only exercise I did was the mandatory PE, which I sucked at big time. I still remember the pulmonary agony I went through for the running test in high school... it took 15 mins of leisure run and I needed two days to recover. That's the shape I was in back then :hiding:

I was introduced to the gym by a male friend, and found myself immediately in weight lifting and I soon grew strong. I just loved the feeling of being stronger than the skinny-ass chicks in the gym :strong:

I ran cross country, track (only the mile & 2 mile), & rode hunter/jumper horses. I absolutely hate running long distance now & end up with shin splints & stress fractures in my shins! My favorite was riding. I started riding when I was 8 & was in my first horse show a yr later. I would have lived in the barn if my parents would have let me!

I did some cheerleading in my elementary days along with tumbling and hurdling (which I was really good at).

In high school I played softball for a parks and recreation, but I was not good. My sis was INCREDIBLE tho'! lol.

I wanted to do cheerleading in high school, but I had a bf who didn't want me doing that. How stupid is that! I'm pissed for letting that happen.

Hey I did horses too, until I had been thrown off so many times that I gave up and my dad took over the whole thing. I was 14 years old when I quit and being a teenager, boys were my new hobby by then, so I also had no time for horses any more. It is sooo time consuming. Well then again, so is this sport LOL.

Yeah, I rode some crazy horses & broke a few bones! It never seemed to bother me! I was crazy & loved to ride the wild ones. I thought it was an adrenaline rush or something I guess:confused:! I sold my 2 horses when I went off to college, but even my senior yr in HS I wasn't riding as much bc I was too busy with the boys & too much drinking:awesome:! I got kinda wild!

I started doing tap/jazz/ballet at age 3. Did that for a few years, then played intramural soccer/softball/basketball til about the age of 8.

From 8 to 11 I danced for a professional ballet company here in NYC. Gave that up, went to judo til the age of 13 where I won Jr. Olympics in my weight class and placed 2nd at Jr Nats. Then I gave that up too.

In HS I ran track (xcountry, 200m and under sprints, 60m hurdles, long jump, relays). Quit track and started lifting weights at the age of 16 and continued from there.

I was ALWAYS active! And my kids will be too. I think it's important for their health and development.

Same thing with me! I started riding when I was 4 years old. Got my first horse at 9 years old and then stupid boys came into the picture when I got to be in my teens. Dumbass that I was, I gave up my horses. Didn't realize it back then how good I had it.

Is partying a sport???

I wish I had been a track and field athlete - if you pick apart my physique, you will note that I was built to sprint, and probably could have been one of the best in the world...had I only known then...

college - Shotokan & Judo

...and if it weren't for all the injuries I suffered doing the above, I never would have gotten into bodybuilding...blessings in disguise that all turned out to be.

I like this thread! And wanted to start it again. I love sports! It gives me goals, challenges, and general getting out the aggression. Unfortunatly, gym time does not always do that for me.

Jr high and High school - I played Basketball, swimming, track, VolleyBall, Rugby.

I excelled in all but I had more drive for the rugby aspect. Ended up getting a scholorship, small covered books but hey. Played one year for Canada, 2 for Alberta, 3 for Calgary and 11 years of club. After I had my daughter I was back on the pitch when she was 6 months old.

Now I cant play due to subscapularis tear, shoulder work is hard!

So now I love running 5 and 10k's, I have the most controversy with my cardio. As I have always since 12 ran 5-6days a week of training, anyway I will post more later on that!

Rock out the sports! :awesome:

I danced from age 3 to 14. Then I got into cheerleading for 6 years. One of those years was competition cheering for my school. I played softball in elementary school for two seasons and probably would have continued playing, but I was a year younger than everyone in my grade and when they aged out of our current league I didn't know anybody and would have to change teams. :(

I know I haven't competed (yet!) but I danced from the age of 5-13, played volleyball in school from 13-18 and then went back to dancing and dancing with a competition company from 18-26. Started lifting when I quit dance at 26 (I'm 28 now) and here I am!

Softball in elementary, figure skated from age 2-17, a little volleyball and basketball but I kinda sucked, track and field in middle and HS (started out doing everything, but eventually just middle distance and javelin), and equestrian events ( hunter/jumper, dressage recreationally, barrel raced competitively).

I had athletic ADD...I loved to try new stuff, but was constantly injured or just switched sports because I got bored. Let's see if I can remember all of it...

I did all sorts of stuff between Age 2-Adulthood The only one that stuck around through adulthood is dance, but at one point or another I also either tried or consistently participated in: gymnastics, soccer, cross-country, field hockey, lacrosse, cheerleading, volleyball, figure skating and tennis.

Cool thread ! A bit of everything growing up. Then focused on track, cross country and basketball in high school. Ended up with a scholarship to a lil college in alberta for basketball...tried it out, hated the town, wasn't ready to be alone, and came home to pursue my education in Nursing :) I miss basketball to death! All the running, however, has left me with hips of an 80 year old at the ripe age of 22.

I played softball and basketball (with the boys) as a kid. Once I got into Jr High though my parents pulled me out of all sports because they said it was too much of a commitment. My 7th grade basketball coach called my parents for a month straight trying to convince them to bring me back to try-outs. They wanted me to focus on music and drama classes instead. So I did. I got to high school and I NEEDED to play sports... so against my parents' wishes I tried out for field hockey and played all through high school. But I wasn't very good. All the girls had years of practice and developing their skills on me that I didn't have because my parents took me out for three years. Pisses me off to this day! lol
I had natural talent but no grooming. Oh well... now at least I have the stage presence from my music and drama background to help me in competing!

Bobsled!? How cool!

Danced from very young until shortly after HS, and then in HS - tennis, volleyball, and varsity cheer/poms. Volleyball was the most intense for sure. Our coach was determined to kill us. We worked out with the varsity football team. Double days during the summer. (WTH?).

I always suspect many body competitors to have backgrounds in athletics.

Often thought gymnasts especially could make the easy transition to the stage.

I ran track and played basketball in Jr. High. Given we lived in the upper snow belt, running track usually meant the first 2 months running in the halls of the school --> shin splints, still to this day keeps me from running very much. I also played a bit of racquetball in the YMCA leagues & w/ my dad. around that same time I discovered the weight room at our Y and started screwing around in there. The lifting, racquetball & basketball I kept up thru college recreationally, w/ some random dance & aerobics classes in there w/ some distance biking. Into my 20's I moved to Florida and continued my lifting and got deeply into scuba diving until I moved in 2003. Lifting has been my own personal pursuit, and never really excelled at any of the other stuff.

Does Ballet/Tap classes in the 60s still count as "I took dance as a child"? ugh.
