LINK (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/transf150.htm)

I got started because I reached a point where I was the heaviest & un-fittest I had ever been in my whole life! As a struggling single mother of two kids I had to make a choice to get fit or continue down the unhealthy path I was already on.

It was 1999, definitely the lowest part of my life, I had to stop my vicious cycle of comfort eating. Eating, or rather binging, for pleasure; to try and feel good. Yet, when the eating was over I would be left feeling bad from overindulging that I would be driven to eat once more to try and feel good again.

Over the years I had gained a considerable amount of weight, an uncomfortable 40+ lbs (20 kilos). I was bursting out of my size 12 clothes and really had to consider buying clothes the next size up. I had always been a size 6, never in my life had I been size 14!
Before: 172.4 pounds
After: 129.8 pounds

The first quote that Sioux used belongs to an article I wrote last year. The first three paragraphs which didn't appear explain why I was so miserable with my life.

I thought I'd let you all know the full story to my weight gain!

Many people I know consider me to be an extremely lucky person. Lucky to be a competitive amateur athlete who does well at most shows I enter; lucky enough to sometimes be featured in magazines that reach thousands of people here in Australia; lucky to be sponsored by a highly reputable supplement company as such CNP Professional. Yet I’ll be the first to admit there is nothing lucky about me or where I am at this particular moment in my life.

Counting back a few years I wasn’t considered to be so lucky. My life as I knew it had hit absolute rock bottom. The year was 1997 and I had just had my second child. My son, Nicholas, had just turned three weeks old when my partner (and father of my two children) came home from work and without any prior warning announced that he had had enough and was leaving. I watched him, totally numb and in disbelief, pack his things and walk out the door. How could this happen and what did I do wrong?

Over the coming days and months the realization that I was left on my own to raise two children without support from their father brought on bouts of extreme loneliness and depression. With these emotions also came the feelings of guilt, thinking how could I have possibly prevented this from happening?

That's why I started comfort eating & ended up with all the excess weight! I HATED myself being so unhealthy and heavy.

The rest of the article continues:

Fortunately for me I woke up one morning and decided enough was enough. It dawned on me that I was the only one who could change things. I was the only one responsible for where I was at. On the inside I felt I wasn’t a fat person. I was never, ever meant to be a fat person! My children needed me to be fit and healthy for them, to be able to play with them and encourage them to be fit and healthy too. What sort of an example was I setting by not looking after myself?

In short, I made a decision that morning to change my circumstances and my life. From that moment on I was totally responsible for creating my own “luck”.

Thank you MM1!

I'm competing here in Australia this year.

I'm an amateur BB though Rosa-Maria has planted the seed in my head that maybe I should be doing figure. Being of European background I have large, powerful legs (thanks to my mom!!) so I'm not so sure I could bring them down to figure:o

Competitors are so tough on themselves. It's a good thing that you didn't pull out! ;)
