As far as I know there aren't any rules that disallow you to return to the CBBF (or another Federation) if you compete in another federation as long as you qualify for a national show. But, it's best to contact the CBBF and find out before making plans.

I have been thinking about dropping my comp in April with SABBA and doing the IDFA one in Calgary in March instead..but if I do that I can not comp in CBBF fed at all for a few years..so I am so confused on what to do..if I maybe to a new fed I have alot more options for comping instead of just 1-2 shows a year.

are all the other feds as sticky about comping in other orgs or are they alright with switching between orgs?

Again, I think it comes down to what your goals are.

Goals as far as what exactly? I am not sure what you mean.

Well if you wanted to turn pro for example. Sadly the other federations are not as respected as the IFBB. And I don't believe a pro card in another federation is transferable to the IFBB.

I don't know if the IFBB is more "respected" than the other federations...I just think that it is more well promoted. The Pro Cards are not transferable. In fact at Nationals this year, I had a client that was told by 3 of the judges after prejudging, that she would have to relinquish her other Pro Cards in order to recieve her top 5 placing! I could start a HUGE thread about all the NPC/IFBB injustices that I have witnessed over the years.

Unfortunately, I could share similair (although not as bizarre) stories from other federations as well. Each of the federations have their own guidelines in place. The goal is to find the federation that most closely follows their own rules.

That plus one that fits what you want to get out of it. An org doesnt make you...you make yourself and the org.

I only asked because I know of some situations where some IFBB Pros are not respected.

That has to do with the person not the federation.

I am not trying to make waves Drexel. This is nothing personal. I am just repeating what I have heard over time.

I don't totally agree with that point because if the federation's goal is to focus on competitiveness and you're too soft, you won't win their shows. If the federation's goal is to focus on the mainstream or natural look and you're too hard and striated, then you won't win their shows.

The success lies in finding a federation that works for you and fits within what you want to do in the sport AND become the best.

I DO agree in that one should make their own body and that nothing should get in the way of personal goals. BUT, all the more reason to be a bit picky which choosing where to compete.

That has to do with the person not the federation.

I agree, I think people who reach the top of their game is always respected no matter what the organization they represent.

With that said, being a pro of a more lucrative or "competitive" federation does likely bring more benefits and command more business depending on what people look for. Other federations gear towards other markets.

That's why I always say to people to speak to the federations about stuff like this before dieting. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I am not trying to make waves either. But my above statement does go back to the federation. The person hasnt done anything to be disrespected.

I wasnt taking anything personal just curious why you made such a statement about other federations.

End of discussion.

CBBF Notice
BCABBA Members please note:
During the World Congress, the President of the IFBB, Dr. Rafael Santonja spoke of the IFBB Federation taking action against competitive organizations. It was further discussed at meetings in Madrid, Spain. The CBBF will now be requesting Provincial Associations to control there athlete’s involvement in competitive organizations, once they become Provincial Association Members. If the athletic is a member of a Provincial Association and compete in a competitive organization they shall be stripped of any title attained while being a member of the Provincial Association and suspended from competing in future IFBB events, for a period of not less than 1 year. From this point onward any Athlete who wishes to compete in any IFBB events, must be previously approved by the President of the CBBF. This was agreed upon at the World Congress and meetings following between the Presidents of the IFBB and Dr. Rafael Santonja.

I have girls prepping for fame, kelowna (BCABBA) and wbff ---- this means if they compete in another show other than BCABBA, they are suspended and can't compete????

I believe so...They lifted it for a bit but I guess got scared that they would lose what little competitors they do have if they open it up o comp in othre feds...Nationals is always big but the novice shows and some prov shows can't afford to lose any more people.

We should but we've talked about this before in pvt ;)

Honestly, I don't disagree. Y'all can PM me with your grievances lol Too many different federations = watered down pool of athletes. Every fed judges differently. If we think we have issues now just from going from Canada to the US imagine what it would be like for girls going from one fed to the next! But I hear ya regarding the stage experience. That is always a plus.

vancouverchick
02-10-2009, 03:01 PM
yes, what can ya do--- why stress about it - I am movin on..... can't lose sleep over it, no way we can change the rules..........

will have to weigh all of the options and benefits of each org. with my clients and let them decide where they want to compete.

There are a bunch of reasons why trying to maintain exclusivity over amateur athletes is a poor business practice for the IFBB, but the workaround is actually quite simple - use a different stage name for each federation you compete in.

In the U.S., back in the day, the IFBB athletes always had a strong recruiting presence in the FAP community. With little exception, all the best FAP competitors would eventually move up to NPC/IFBB competition. Some women competed in multiple federations throughout the year, but the cream of each crop always settled on the NPC/IFBB route.

Why? Because the IFBB is simply the best, period.

Respectfully, how do you define the best? In terms of promotion, perhaps. But there is quite possibly (although arguably) no other federation that controls their athletes to the degree of the IFBB and raises questions of unjust practices, all to the detriment of their athletes, especially the females. In addition, I can point out athletes from other federations that would rival the NPC/IFBB athletes on all levels. They should totally open the doors for crossovers from other federations...it would only help the sport, not hurt it. In addition, the NPC is set up as a non-profit organization, not a for profit business and should be run in a manner to adhear to their statement that allows them to be a non-profit oranization.

the hard thing is --- bcabba is such a small organization --- they'd know if I show'd up on their stage as Lori Mork and then a stage name at another show --- they'd see the pics!!! hee hee

Not a huge problem for me, cause I always have chosen to compete solely with CBBF events --- with the exception of the arnold amateur....... but for some of my friends who like to try a little fame, wbff, idfa, cbbf, etc --- now they have some serious decisions to make. The ifbb pro card is not their goal ---- so what is drawing them to even stay with cbbf at all...........
