View Full Version : Tested vs. non tested events: My rant

Well the first show in BC is only a few short months away. If you don't know it is the Western Canadians and it is a drug tested event. This show is open to all athletes in Canada and is a national qualifier (please correct me if I'm wrong). Even if it is not a national qualifier my displeasure still stands! In the past few days I've seen and heard of more than a handful of athletes that are training for this show and are not respecting the rules. If you are not a natural athlete you need to rethink your contest plans. It is not fair to those men and women that are being honest.
I am not saying I am anti drugs. We all know it exists. It is your choice to make and I do not judge anyone. My issue is with those that have the option to do non tested shows and yet take the easy way out and compete in tested events. You must be aware that a positive test suspends you for up to 2 yrs. Is that worth it when the next show is only a month away? The worst part is that if you win and fail the 2nd,3rd, and 4th placers do not move up. You have essentially taken away a qualifying spot.
This is not sportsmanlike conduct IMO.
Ok got it off my chest. Feel better now :)

This one isn't in Canada, but the Natural Northern competition in Cleveland, OH has Jay Cutler as the guest poser, a little funny

To be honest, I think that's bloody ridiculous. It sends mixed messages.

I totally agree with you Quadrablue...
There are so many "not tested" competitions compared to "tested"... Why would someone chose to go in the natural ones if they aren't natural!
I witnessed a situation at my last comp... Somebody was there and she shouldn't have been. It made me so angry, I would have left the minute I got in!!!
I have rethink the whole process, and unfortunately don't believe in it anymore. I won't chose a specific Federation only because they state they are natural. I planned to competed in a few non-tested competitions in the future because I won't spend all this money on drug testing if nobody respects them.
Sorry!!! Now, it was my turn to vent ;)

just to give some heasds up to the people who doubt they drug test ---- the last three years in a row the overall figure winner ended up testing positive for drugs!!!!!!!! 3 years!!!! figure!!!!! gimme a break!!! they didn't even look that good!!! give it up!!!
I have 8 NATURAL girls getting ready for this show ---- so if any of you non naturals dare to step on stage, you will deal with the rath of a very carb delpeted Lori Mork!!!!! Not pretty!!!!! I dare ya!!!!!!!
Wait till the ft st john show 7 weeks later --- non tested and still qualifies you for the provincials!!!!!
And the kelowna show qualifies you for the world qualifier, and provincials, not nationals. But still, the world qualifier is a great national level event with great exposure and opporunities!!!
Stay natural for this competition please!

I don't see the reason to use if you aren't having to compete against people of Olympia quality proportions. It isn't pro level, so why ruin the chances for those who stay natural?
How about this one....the Quebec Tested in Quebec - was not tested - not sure who they test - but I was not one of them.
And I was always under the impression that National shows, and the World Qualifier were 2 separate streams of shows.
Now I come to find out that going to Fitness/Figure Nationals qualifies you for the World Qualifier - now called the Natural Physique. So there will be girls who never actually 'qualified' to go to the WQ, but basically got a bye from Nationals.
So really the 2 streams are not separate anymore.
How does it work in your province?
Anyways I agree completely with Athena. :awesome:

Really? This is news to me. Maybe Jeni Briscoe, the rep for Figure in BC, can shed some light on this. I'd like to know the answer to this too.

Allison,
Québec Testé isn't tested at all. They don't have the money for it... They count on people's honesty. (That's what I've been told by someone at FCPAQ)
I can't wait to see this new NATURAL PHYSIQUE...
Anywayz, I don't believe it anymore :)

Am I correct in believing the WQ and the Nationals were 2 different streams of shows?
What strikes me as weird is that for the CBBF there are so many different rules in each province, it would be nice to have one set of rules.

I thought so too! I received the flyer a few days ago and it made me wonder what kinda message was being sent.....

But how would you know?
I am always curious about who is natural and who is not. I go in streaks...sometimes I think everyone is natural...sometimes I think everyone is using something. I guess it's probably somewhere in the middle. (I'm speaking of figure women...I know Jay Cutler is not natural. :p )
It would be nice if everyone played by the rules.

From what I understand the reason girls who do the WQ and place top 3 (for sure I'm not sure if its top 5) get to go to the Reg fitness and figure nationals is because the WQ is considered a national level show. There for if you place high in one "national level" show they you can crossover. Its ok from WQ to Nats, but the other way round with nats not drug tested.... I don't really agree. But both shows qualify you for the North americans. So the WQ being a smaller show, less girls, the chances of getting to the NA's is better for them.
I think the people who show up at the Kelowna show not all natural should be asshamed of themselves. Lori is right, my show is only 7 weeks later, do it instead. Its not like they dont' have other options. "Stealing" a spot from someone who plays by the rules is not fair. And yes, every year we have to suspend girls for testing positive. And no the other winners dont' get to be moved up a spot. So for the 4th place person they get to wait a whole year to compete again cause some one didn't respect the show.
Hope this helps.
Due to the cost very few natural shows test more than the top placers (if any) and the tests are only for a limited amount of substances.
The advantage a natural competitor will have is that drug users usually go off at least androgen/anabolics two weeks before which is long enough to make a significant negative impact on their conditioning and psychological state. Due to the latter some are unable to stay off even that long and get caught even with the low end testing used.
I doubt anything short of Olympic level testing would be able to do much about it - shaming clearly has not worked and most users easily pass a polygraph since they have convinced themselves they are not cheating (through the belief that if they use 'less drugs' they are relatively 'natural').

I agree allison - we need one set of rules, tiers, etc for all provinces.......
I think any shows that are "natural" must be required to test top 3 finishers...period!!!!!! I think they should charge every athlete an extra $75 and then test --- no exceptions!!!!!
I think we should have one large group for the CBBF that oversees the provinces, and then smaller groups in each province that run the events.....but must abide by the rules of all!!! Then we wouldn't have such different looks coming out of each province --- in figure for example it is all over the map - some are coming from ontario, with different rules and regs, alberta, different!!! and bc, different!!!!! CONFUSING!!!! Then you get to nationals and it's all over the map!!!!
I don't think you should be able to cross from nationals to WQ and vice versa, they are totally different shows and have different qualifying tiers.
