Hello Ladies,
I was wondering if there is anybody herer who has competed with WNSO FAME in the past? I am planning on trying out with them in April 09, here in Montreal.
I heard many rumors about them (some good, some bad, like in anything) and I would simply would like to know your impression of them, as an organization.
Thank you in advance,

Talk to Drexel for sure.... Ms Guns... I had a booth at their big show in Miami in November... I think their presence in Canada is much stronger than here... I also think it really depends on what your goals are.... It's definately not the NPC...

Also make sure that competing in FAME will not disqualify you from competing in CBBF shows.

Athena,
I clarified that with Sandra Wickham the BCABBA president...
they no longer have that in effect
about competing in other associations will disqualify you from competing in CBBF...
i always ask my competitors what do you want to get outta doing a show, in order to make their decision where to compete
I look at some very seasoned competitors that have been around for a long timel that left CBBF to compete in other organizations, even became PROs in those organizations, who are now back competing in CBBF still trying to break into the IFBB pro ranks, and if they'd only have stayed there to begin with they'd most likely already be there....

I heard that before... I should talk to the promotor of FCPAQ then, before making any move, since FCPAQ leads to CBBF! And wanted to do their show in June (Quebec de l'ouest) which is a championship that leads to the Provincial ..etc.
Once I have their answers, I'll come back here to post it :)
Thanks!!!

I have heard through the grapevine that the ban will be making a comeback, for fame, and other organizations like WBFF, IDFA, etc....... just the heads up...... a rumor, maybe, but it has been stated...........
In manitoba a friend of mine was told she could not do fame, idfa, etc.... banned.
The CBBF does not discriminant against those who choose to compete in another federation however, as mentioned if you hope to do well, I would stick with just one and try to move up the ranks.
If it is your first few years of competing, try all federations if you have the resources to do so, and then see which you like best, and work you way up that one.
Mike Clement runs the FAME shows in Quebec - well organized, and good competitors.

Arrgh! Why would they do that! It may mean that I am already banned for going with IDFA this year :(
That makes me mad!!!! :)
Anywayz, I wrote an email to Benoit Brodeur from FCPAQ... we'll see! ehehe

WHat? Banned from FCPAQ? I don't think so.
Tamara Vahn just won her pro card this year, and she competed a month before with IDFA in fitness.
I think you are fine, and can do both federations.
They (the CBBF) took out the ban that was in place about 2 years ago. Girls have been known to compete in other federations, and compete in the CBBF as well.
No one ever wants to talk about that their may be some politics involved when you get to the national level in CBBF. Because as we are all aware, in the CBBF as there is only one opportunity to turn pro so it can get quite a competitive at the National level. That is why I say if you want to turn IFBB pro you will probably not want to compete in other federations as the CBBF would like to know where your loyalities lie - but with that being said - I come back to Tamara's situation - she won many times with the IDFA and now is an IFBB pro.

I did compete for the CBBF back in 1999 at the Nationals, then switched to other federations as I knew that boucing back and forth between CBBF and the other federations was not possible. For me I wanted to try all the organizations and did not feel that it was fair for an organization to 'ban' athletes from competing in their shows when I am footing the bill for everything.
But since I have spent my time in other federations, and have gained much experience with competing, I am ready mentally now to be an IFBB fitness pro. I was not ready back in 1999 to be a pro. Even as little as 4 years ago I was not ready. But NOW I am ready to play with the big dogs!
And since CBBF only holds 1-2 show per year, for me that was not enough experience to learn and grow as an athlete. (there was a 'ban' in effect at the time so you could not compete for other federations).
I had met another athlete at the time and she decided to go CBBF way and I competed in other federations. It has been almost 10 years and she still does not have her pro card.
You need the practice of being on stage to get better. I think you should be able to compete for whomever you want. But I also understand how this whole 'game' works.
I want my IFBB Fitness Pro card, so therefore for the last 3 years I have only been doing CBBF and NPC shows. I am ready to turn pro and feel that I have achieved what I needed to from the other federations that I competed with.
That is why we do need more pro cards....leading to the other thread.

I am so excited to be talking to you "directly"! :)
I totally agree with you, and if Benoit Brodeur tells me something that is the reason I will give him... but who knows what they want to do...
After my Progym Cup in 2007, I didn't feel ready to compete again with this federation that I considered very strong and I needed to get experience somewhere else.... If they don't want my participation anymore because of that, I would find it very demotivating on their part.
I hope Benoit Brodeur gets back to me very soon! Time is running out! :)

Hi Claudine,
Im a FAME Pro...
I luv FAME!!!!
Ive noticed all organizations have issues...Ive heard stuff b4 I competed w/ the NPC and still competed AND Im still hearin rumors...lol
I believe its what you want to get out of the org.
Jeff and Mindy have been very helpful to me...I would do anything for them.
Like Ned said FAME is stronger in Canada but I think they will be just as strong in the USA come the next yr or so. A lot of USA Pros are having shows in their hometowns. Houston will be having one May 09 and Im guest posing. The show is being promoted by 2 Pros (Male bodybuilder and Female Bikini). So if you have any questions let me know...
Also join bodyproud.org...See ya there..
Also, you can compete in the IDFA and FAME w/ no problems even the WBFF.

That is not true...Ive been contacted by the Pres of IDFA and he told me because of my NGA and FAME Pro status I can compete as a Pro w/ the IDFA.
I compete in the NGA, FAME and IFPA and I havent had any problems. I was a featured athlete for the IFPA and my 3 time Pro status was recognized.
Im lookin into competing w/ the WBFF and UFE next yr and they dont have a problem w/ my 3 time Pro status.

Well, as Lori says, it is a rumour that restrictions could be put in place, and I've heard the rumblings too, more than a couple of times in the last six months. Here in Canada, and especially in Ontario there is a whole alphabet of federations, seemingly a new one springing up every year and the talent pool of good athletes is starting to get diluted, so the CBBF may be thinking of circling the wagons and protecting their turf.

Do you think they are taken as seriously and are as respected as the IFBB?

when i was talking about the idfa restriction it wasn't that the idfa has the actual restriction --- it was the cbbf that doesn't like the athlete's to compete in the other competitions,.... I have no clue about idfa, fame, wbff, etc and their restrictions (if they even have any), I only chose to compete in the CBBF ones......
And as Rick pointed out, it is always just something that is talked about, rumor, talk.
for me, I want to compete at the IFBB level (pipe dream, maybe), but in order to do that, I need to get a pro card at a cbbf or north americans competition, so doing any other competitions would be stage exposure, but not get my to the stage that I want to get to.
Do you think they are taken as seriously and are as respected as the IFBB?
This will probably cost me some work! ;) .....so be it! :awesome:
My answer to both questions.....no.

IFBB is the most widely known and respected
all have their issues, just like all people have issues !
but to each their own...

I think every organization is so different, you just have to check with yourself to see what you ultimate goal is.....
* to get on stage and have fun........... maybe fame, maybe other entry level shows are the way to go, or some do regionals and then never compete again, they reached their goals!!!
* to be a famous fitness model - fame sure does seem to have great exposure, and this new wbff too (you see a ton of top girls like jennifer nicole lee etc with them now). Staus magazine being one of the main sponsors of the wbff shows..... exposure.
* to be on the IFBB olympia stage one day --- only CBBF can get you there!!!
* Stage experience --- maybe trying NPC events close to our border, ie. emerald cup, oregon shows ---- can't win or go to their nationals, but stage time!!!
* Some girls even go the natural route --- of kelowna (western canadians) - then skip provincials and cbbf route and opt to go to the world qualifier and on to world's.
It is nice to have options, and I think we will see more and more new organizations coming out of the woodwork as our sport continues to grow and develop....not a bad thing, options are always good, and goals do change. I just think you have to do what works for you and not let others convince you otherwise --- you will find out soon enough who puts on the good shows, organized shows, or the ones that helped you get to your goals!!!

Bon, Bon, Bon...
(Well, Well, Well...)
Benoit Brodeur (FCPAQ promoter) just got back to me. He says that all these rumours aren't true. A competitor can compete in any Federation she/he wants, and can come back to the FCPAQ later.
Talking with my coach (who wasn't born yesterday in that industry), it seem that yes, you can do whatever you want, but that they aren't eager to make you win if you tried many federations besides theirs.
What do I take of all this?
I am going to continue doing what I am doing. Competing for fun. And, if on day, I am given a pro card or even just a first place, it will be a nice reward... but nothing more.

Curiously enough, I was just talking to someone in Ontario who is part of the OPA executive yesterday, and someone who was formerly involved with SABBA today....and, YES there are people talking about reverting back to the CBBF way or the "other" way for competitors. It won't happen in 2009 because it's too late to arrive at a consensus of opinion as to exactly what the stipulations will be. Even if the rule takes effect in a year or two, personally I don't think it will affect things much, here in Ontario there isn't a huge crossover of athletes, other than the vanity competitors.

yes, as much as there is no RULE ---- politics ALWAYS come into play and you sometimes see that in terms of the results in competitors ---
ie. at CBBF nationals Fitness - a very well known FAME girl (sorry, I call her that cause she was on fame posters, even had a fame show named after her)...... did not place well,............ she didn't even make top 5 - her routine was amazing, far better than some of the other top 5 girls!!! And her body has never looked better - and she got something like 6th or 7th......... hmmmmm, was it fame that hurt her..... no one will ever know I suppose.
I like your mind set though - do what you love and you will eventually be rewarded for it, or at least have fun trying..... happy competing!!!!
