You know, I've actually thought about competing @ the Arnold...but I wouldn't want to be dieting on Xmas..but then I thought about it some more and could start my diet the weekend after Nats which would be 14 weeks out from the Arnold, and make my final cheat meal Xmas dinner w/ the family...still haven't decided anything for sure! Wanted to enjoy a long offseason...but to be honest seems like I do better when training for something..now I'm do'n a mini prep (clean diet/1 hr. cardio). Genetically, I'm just not the chick that can eat like normal ppl and not gain weight!!!
I hope you get the invite....do you just send in a letter of intent and they make the selections from that? B/c it seemed like some ppl knew they were going and others were waiting on the response.

May be because they placed well at the past Arnold or Olympia. Also if you won the biggest amateur show in the country, you're pretty much guaranteed an invite (such as Nita Marquez winning the Fitness Nationals).

Oh ok....I think Nita should def do the Arnold! Chris is her biggest fan and he and I were talking about it!
The Arnold was Christy Hawkins and Nicole Wilkins ( i think it's Wilkins) first pro show.

The Arnold is soooooo much fun. Melody and I have been several times and I HIGHLY recommend it. If you are able get the VIP package grab it because all of the tickets are included PLUS tickets to the after dinner with the athletes. In 04' Melody and I were sitting at the table eating with Elaine Goodlad, Jenny Lynn, and Adela Garcia. it was cool hanging out with them and chatting about anything and everything! I was even able to sit and hang with Jay Cutler also which was uber cool.
Also if you have never been before I highly suggest you book your hotel early AND bring an extra suitcase because you will have tons of goodies given to you by every booth out there. FUN TIMES!!!!!

Where shall I begin.... working the expo in not as chill as the O. The people who attend the Arnold are animals and if you turn your head for a moment they will try to steal from your samples. I don't want to diet in February when it's my offseason. I don't want to use my vacation days to work in Ohio in the winter. [/rant]

LOL!! I did notice that ppl were a little agressive when it came to the samples...that's why I really wasn't feeling the expo after I did the 1st walk through. I just really enjoyed the show...maybe b/c that was my 1st time seeing a PRO show. I've heard some ppl prefer the Arnold and others the "O".

Does anyone know if the top 5 placement in a qualifying show has to be within the past two years like some shows?
And why are they asking for that when there are no cards being given away? The only time I see that requirement is when cards are at stake???

For those who are attending the Arnold and are also wanting to stay on track in terms of diet during contest prep, I would recommend checking out the Extended Stay America hotels in the Columbus area. All of them are on the outskirts of the city, so you'll either have to get a cab, drive yourself or find someone to carpool to the venue. However, all of them feature fully equipped kitchens (complete with fridge, microwave and stovetop) and all of them have very good prices (range is from $53/night to $120/night for the Arnold weekend). Check it out!! Here is the website:

Yes! We always stay a little farther out to avoid having to pay $$$$ for rooms with nothing but a short walking distance to the show. Of course, I have never competed there, so many may find the short walking distance a necessity. But if there is someone around to drop you off at the door, I would heed Jeremy's advice! But book very early.

We stayed out in Worthington last year at TownePlace Suites. It wasn't bad at all. A 20 min drive to and from. The highway is just down the road. This place is set with fully equipped kitchens too and there are many restaurants in the area and Metro Fitness Gym just down the road. This hotel also had a little gym that only had a treadmill and bike in it :( Fine if all you need to do is cardio.

I stayed here 2008 year and had a good experience.

I am going to stay there again for 2009. Rates are resonable, just make sure to ask for the Arnold Rate, they also offer transportation and its only a mile away from the Expo. If you need to train they give you a pass to Gold Gym and they even offered transportation from airport to hotel and hotel to airport.

I like the Courtyard Marriott on Spring St. You can walk to the convention center faster than the shuttle can get you there b/c of all the other stops. There's a nice restaurant on the corner (can't remember the name) that's not even 2 mins. and then there's a breakfast joint (can't remember that name either) that's a 10 min. walk. It's about a $25 taxi ride from the Airport.

The people who work at the booths are usually sponsored by the supplement company or are hired fitness models to work the booths that weekend.
