View Full Version : Judges say Heather had "bumps"!

Here's a possible explanation for the mystery of Heather Armbrust’s placing at the Olympia last night. In his contest report (http://www.musculardevelopment.com/content/view/1313/79/) on md.com, Steve Wennerstrom says the judges placed her low because they said she had “distracting bumps on each glutial muscle”. I'm sure this is reliable since it comes from Steve. So, ironically, it seems that while Iris had fixed her issue that she was penalized for at the Arnold, Heather had developed one of her own - pretty crazy. What is weird is that no-one else watching the show (including Dave Palumbo etc) seemed to notice?

I am not a judge and I will admit to being biased here. I would place her in the top 3. Even in her current condition, I thought she would place high. Now for the so- called lumps or welts, I don't see a damn thing. Excuse my hard language... I don't know what kind of lame excuse it was. Mark her down a little bit because she is not in peak condition, but don't mark her down for non existent bumps. This is not even comparable for what they saw in Iris' glutes before...

Heather's conditioning was "off" but I didn't see any bumps or welts on her glutes that are/were worse than any other competitors who I saw them on.
I think that's a weak arguement...all of the FBBs at that level use gear, and it's no secret. Blantantly obvious use is one thing, but I didn't see that with Heather. In fact, I saw some lumps on the back end of one of the fitness competitors too!

The judges will often tell a competitor something that "might" be valid in order to avoid having a full-blown discussion with an athlete. I don't know what the deal was with Heather's placing. Bumps are a dime a dozen at that level. You can't have it both ways. If folks are bothered that Heather "may" have been docked for bumps than they should have been equally disturbed when it happened to Iris at the Arnold. I can't speak for this forum, but on other forums I detected a certain bias on this subject. If it shouldn't happen to Heather than it shouldn't have happened to Iris. I remember a lot of people looking the other way when this happened to Iris, who are now indignant that it happened to Heather. Let's try being a little objective on this shall we?

not saying this is the case for anyone in particular but some 'newbies' might confuse very large medial glutes (developed from deep squatting and deep leg press) with a 'lump'. iris this year had such phenomenal development she actually had a split in her glutes separating her medial glutes from the remainder of the area. something to keep in mind for those of you who are not very familiar with the muscles in that area and may confuse the issue.

A great point Powergirl. Can't wait to see you compete again. You were awesome at the Canadian Nats.

That does make sense...b/c I kept looking at the pics and didn't see anything that resemble what Iris had at the Arnold..but I did see the lump...so I just assumed that's what they were referencing...but now I see that could be from the squats.

thanks CalJoe -- i thought iris was 'without flaws' this year and had such incredible dryness to her physique that every muscle was absolutely magnified! she is so consistent every year with her conditioning! Does anyone know what the weigh-in weights were for all the female competitors?
BTW although we're still settling in here with our new house (waiting for internet/phone grrr LOL) my workouts and meals are going great and i'm highly motivated for next year - i'm counting down! :D

I agree. Iris just totally dominated this show. She was flawless in this show, and she looked like she was shrink-wrapped, not to mention her incredible symmetry. I know that Betty Viana was around 157 at weigh-in. She told me it's the lightest she's competed in years. I think the lower weight served her well.
Good luck with settling in, and I'm glad to hear that you're motivated. By the looks of your last show you certainly appeared motivated to me:awesome:.
As for Heather, she was off, but she's such a great competitor, and it would be shame to see her walk from the bb stage. I hope she steps back from what just happened and reconsiders. She's great.
