Wanted to know from the competitors out there, what do you look for or what have you experienced from different contests that have made them ideal for you to compete? Was it the building, accomodations, prize money, pro card status?

So far, it's been that they're close to home. In the future, it will be that there are Pro cards offered. I don't do things for 'exposure'. I'm exposed enough. Hell, I'm overexposed. I'm building a website and I really don't want to.

Why do you feel overexposed??
It was the adrenaline rush for me... I mean I am super duper shy, and wanted to even run off right before but as soon as I stepped on stage, that vanished and I was hoooked :p

For me it's location and convenience. I like to choose shows my boyfriend can go to (he's in kansas and I"m in NM). NM doesn't really have much of a competition scene right now so I look at shows in Texas a lot.

I'm applying this to national level for me.
I choose the show on timing of the year and location. I would love to do the Jr. Nationals, but my kids are just getting out of school and we felt it was just too close to start doing things. And also location because for me, Vegas is not too expensive and there are things to do there that my kids can have fun too.
It is definitely NOT my cup of tea tho' to be sweating back stage from the heat and not from pumpin' up. LOL! Vegas is scorchin' in July and not fun at all! The area they had the figure girls situated at was not big enough for 240 girls! You could not see the floor! You han luggages, coolers , GIRLs sitting everywhere!!! I'm surprised the fire dept didn't give out warnings! It was bad!!!

I am with Franny - Location and convenience, which is easy since I am in Denver.
Also, I prefer to pick a show that is a National Qualifier so you can have a next step goal. We have a show coming up next weekend that is not a National Qualifier. I really wanted to do this show when I was picking my first show last year, but now that I know how hard it is to prep I would not do this show.

In Canada you have limited options. In BC you have 3 Provincial qualifiers but one in tested. Only 1 Nat qualifier per province and only 1 pro qualifier per year.

Location, convenience & the promoter.......There's 1 show a year in my town, so I like to do that one + one that my posing coach promotes & I liked doing the one my other coach had. He moved it tho, so it's farther away. There's a couple I know who promote shows too and theirs would be awesome to do.
I'm not pro material yet, so I can't even think of a pro card at this point.....Plus, I don't think I'd ever make this a "career" and I don't expect to get any modeling or anything out of it, so that stuff doesn't matter to me.
Agree on the heat thing......gotta have A/C at the venue!!!

I don't want to take this thread OT (so sorry!) but I don't like the pressure to do the sexier side of the biz. I just want to compete, I don't want to pose in a thong.
