Hiya (as they say here in London)! :D

My name is Amy and I just wanted to say a quick hello and introduce myself. I hesitated to do so because I feel kind of like the 6th grader trying to sit at the high schoolers' lunch table amongst you ladies , but you motivate and inspire me to keep plugging away every single day! I hope to learn from all of you here and, if nothing else, to offer you some support and encouragement in return. And my sincere thanks goes to Siouxcountry for providing a place where these things can happen!

Aw, thank you all for such a nice welcome!

I have only one figure competition under my belt (and that was a few years back--didn't expect to be in London this long!), but I learned very quickly that I was just a little fish in a big sea of some amazing physiques! So even with a few additional years of training since that experience, I still feel a bit out of place in a community of competitors of your calibur! In any case, I am very grateful to be here and to be able to learn from all of you! :)

one thing i have learned is NEVER compare yourself to others.

everyone is at their own level, beating their own personal goals... being the best YOU that you can be.

so no worries we all come from differnt levels in the sport but what is important is that we all support eachother!! :) and you must also remember is that at one point in time, EVERYONE started at the bottom!

Thanks, Shelly/Betsy (how do I know!? lol). I did feel great stepping on stage knowing that I was in the best shape I'd ever been in, but it didn't take long for me to realize that being the toughest girl in my gym (ha ha) didn't mean that I was anything special outside of that context!! Very humbling! :) But I think your advice is very wise and I am sure that it becomes vital to remember that when it comes to some of the confusing placing in competitions!!! Victories are not only determined by where you place in a show, huh?!

LOL Fitmomma! Hardly! You have a great physique! And I so admire those of you in this industry who achieve what you do AFTER having children! :O My sister is not a physique competitor, but she has five children (and we just learned that a sixth is on the way!) and has gotten back into great shape after each pregnancy, and I am so proud of her! I've seen a lot of her friends and my friends use having children as an excuse to just stop trying to be fit, but people like you just blow all of their excuses out of the water!

you are right it is quite humbling to be on stage with other girls who put forth great effort and bring great packages to stage!
thats why you just gotta rock it the best way you can and enjoy your shining moments!! :)

oh and I am Shelly 90% of the time. I just rep for both of us ;)

Thank you, Hakan! :)

Hi, SC! Thank you, and I'm very glad to be here! I guess I learned fairly early in life that if you want to get better at something, you should surround yourself with people who challenge you to improve, so I am grateful that you welcome people from all different phases of the journey!

Yes, I am an American transplant in London. :) I came here to do a Masters degree in Sport Sciences. I completed my degree and now I'm just waiting for my husband to finish his PhD. Then this summer we will be returning to the motherland--I can't wait!

Shelly, which one are you in your avatar pic? :)

IG, thank you, that's very kind! It drives me nuts how I'm not flexing evenly on both sides though. lol

nabba65pp, thanks very much! I'm loving it here already!

SC, well, I am more than happy to share what I've learned, but the more I study exercise science, the more I realize that there is sooooo much I don't know!!! :) And I've also learned that there is a lot to learn from practice and experience that you can't learn in a lecture or from a book, which is why it's so great to be here and glean wisdom from everyone on the boards! This is one reason that I LOVE watching or reading anything by Charles Glass--the man knows so much that no PT cert or degree program will ever teach you!

learning by doing that is the only way :-) it is just like life - here is no textbook to life.... and you have to feel it on your own body too :-)
