yeah I told her to post that info from the backstage interview on bbing.com following the show...the woman mentioned the DQ but said she didn't get to ask Iris about it b/c she had already left...still working on my sources to see if they know what the reasoning was...
and if this were tested then your winner would have been Tracy Beckham...

I been told by a very reliable source Iris was indeed penalized because of the bumps. She was warned in the past, but failed to listen.
Well that is a shame, you would think after being warned about something like that you might just wanna be on the lookout for it.

Just a question for all of you. Iris was disqualified because of 'lumps in her deltoids and glutes'. Was this for being suspected of injecting performance enhancing drugs? Or was that for being suspected of using synthol? Don't kill me now.... Just asking a question...

Not DQ'd...penalized. And yes to the suspected steroid use. Her's were VERY noticeable. It was the first thing I said about her when I saw her.

The glutes, and shoulders are a well known injection site for steroids. No one injects Synthol into the glutes.

John Sherman:
Where do I begin? Let's begin with a question, at what show, male or female, has an athlete been called out in the the first call out, and not placed in the money? In my 23 years of being involved in this sport, that has never happened, until Friday night. I will never make excuses for Iris, mainly because excuses have never been necessary, and this is no exception.
1. Iris does not site inject!!!
2. Iris was not DQ'd
3. After prejudging, I was informed that because of the bumps on her hip and shoulder, that she wouldn't win. That a message had to be sent because of all of the negative press recently and because of Arnold's position. Let's give this one some very serious thought( bullshit! )
4. look @ all of the pics of Iris, her conditioning was the same.
be smart about it and don't compare pics from a different venue and time from the year before(lighting is not the same)
5. She wasnt feeling ill on stage at any point and never asked to withdraw from the competition(for what, she was in the very first call out)
I'm currently still an active athlete and I realize that we all want to win on each outing, but can't, but we still expect to be judged fairly and treated with respect, which was clearly not the case on this day. If Iris was going to be penalized, she should have been told something (IMO). But since she was penalized, what kind of message does that send to the ladies who received 8thru 16? The judges are saying that she wasnt good enough to beat some of the ladies whose bumps weren't as large as hers, and she was good enough to beat the rest of the ladies who had no bumps? With all of that being said, the mistakes that were made on this occassion( and they were clearly mistakes) will not happen @ the Olympia for sure

Maybe it's cause of the mood I'm in but what I just read is....well I don't have a word. Iris is a professional and as a pro she should know better. Site inject maybe not, but those 'bumps' are clearly injection spots. Yes others sported the same bumps but hers were by far the worst. No wonder she was made an example of. What better way to send a message.

Not to totally defend Iris but.... She may have been warned about the lumps in her butt. Site injection knots are hard and do not go away by just not shooting there. It would take deep tissue massage and a good bit of it to remove them.
Take points away but don't DQ her. All pro-BB male and females are on. And quite a few figure and fitness also. And no I'm just guessing here.

<FLAME ON>Am I missing something here? I am obviously a newbie at all of this, but why does Iris and her other cohorts who use illegal substances get defended? I know this will certainly stir up some emotion, but for those of us who try to participate in this sport by only putting what's good for us in our bodies and following a healthy lifestyle, these folks who take steriods and what-not are just ruining the whole idea of the sport. What kind of example are they making? You have to cheat in order to win??? Wouldn't it be cooler and a better accomplishment if what the greatness they achieved was done because they have extraordinary genetics, work hard and do it without drugs?????
I don't know.......... it's obvious that I'm not in this to be Ms. Olympia or anything like that. But even if I was, it would be a cold day in hell that I would use this stuff and ruin my health. I guess it's something I will never understand. <FLAME OFF>

Things in pro sports are a little more complex than that Xena. I wish there were no drugs in the sport at all -its not just bodybuilding, where theres money, fame, exectations, pressure from sponsors etc, theres drugs, and have been for many years. Its just the way sports has evolved. If you wanna be in pro sports(and for a great deal amateur too) you gotta make a decision. Do I want to compete on that level ,with what it takes, Do I wanna place last in every competition or do I just wanna work out?
If 100% out of 100% take drugs is it then cheating? Genetics always beats drugs. There has not been invented a drug that can make bad gentics great. Today on the pro stage we see the most genetically gifted bodybuilders in the world, who are enhanced.
Im not defending drugs, as I personally, wish athletes didnt have to deal with that issue, but we need to open our eyes and see reality how it really is. Iris and other athletes work their asses off in the gym, always diet and sacrifice many things in life, such as having kids, socializing, traveling, good food, relationships, things that cost money like a car, house, education etc. Bodybuilding is both a sport, a lifestyle and an artform. And it takes all our time, effort and money. If I could buy a can of proteinpowder or a new blouse I´d choose the protein any day! What I´m trying to tell you, is, that bodybuilding takes a lot of effort and maximum sacrifice, and whatever it takes, we do it because we cannot not do it, its a drift, a passion, and sometimes u gotta take the sour with the sweet. It is not an option whether in pro sports to take drugs or not, its a choice not to over-do it. It is heavy on our shoulders. I think bodybuilders are victims because they are forced to take drugs in order to compete. Do you think a woman can get to 3% bodyfat with big estrogenlevels? not possible, but these are the demands!! Fbbérs are simply adapting what is asked of them, but what if, what is asked is human impossible.
I think its fair in concern to Iris that she got penalized for her very visible lumps, it was not pretty. And that is what the body should be. For me it is an artform - a sculpture - and we are all looking to create the perfect sculpture. She just didnt have the perfect sculpture that day. If taking drugs in bodybuilding is cheating then every athlete should be disqualified, and there would be no sport called bodybuilding.
You are are newbie to this, I understand. I hope my insight information has enlightened you a bit on the matter. Everything has a surface, but in order to truly achieve knowledge, you must look behind the surface, be openminded, open your eyes wide up and SEE not judge.

Thank you, Hakan.
...In addition.. we have to look at the facts and then adress them. We cannot shut our eyes and just complain and judge. I´ve been hearing people say:" why dont IFBB pro´s just come clean and admit they are taking drugs." No sane person would do this, as taking drugs are illegal(at least in most countries). And that would be a felony. Plus the hypocritics of bodybuilding would punish us for doing that. Saying out loud, "yes I use illegal substances" would not be a good image for the IFBB, and it could have severe consequences for the athlete, yet the athletes has to abide to given standarts. We know all that.
So when these are the facts, the better question is, what can we do to solve these issues?

If 100% out of 100% take drugs is it then cheating?
Didn't the IFBB try something maybe 10 years ago with the men, and all the guys came in much smaller for the Mr. Olympia? And I think the fans were disappointed. It is the fans who are driving this, or the competitors? To quote Mr. Neil Young:
I've been wrong before, and I'll be there again.
I don't have any answers, my friend.
Just this pile of old questions ...

They have Natural orgs BBr's & fitness/figure can compete in. Now, it WOULD be cheating if a competitor who was not natural competed in a natty comp.
I once thought a bit like you but you have to consider 'the level playing field' these competitors are competing on. If the best is doing this or taking that, than sometimes a person may think in order to get to that level, they have to also go down that path.
I do understand your concern but I ask you not to judge those who decide to use enhancers, as it (hopefully) is a safe and informed decision.
I feel I have my work cut out for me also given how tall I am to maintain the LBM to balance out my symmetry. But I have so far proven I can do very well in both orgs and I will continue to stay natural.

I don't think it's possible to do well in the pros without steroids, and other drugs.

That's a new one on me...why would a figure gurl need steroids??? I understand estrogen blockers, diuretics, fat burners which are not prescribed to humans for that purpose, etc....but I had no clue that a figure physique required steroids...
I think when ppl say drugs they automatically assume steroids...but there are alot of things figure girls do take to get stage ready in the IFBB, but it isn't necessarily steroids.
Also, the definition of natural can be interpreted in so many different ways. I have a figure friend who said to be natural in her opinion means to purchase anything over the counter...such as Teraxatone used to drop water, is still considered natural to her...where as that same person would say another person isn't natural b/c they found a dr. to write them a script for a diuretic. Some extreme ppl will say protein powder isn't natural and that natural is get'n all your protein from food sources...so I think the term "Natural" is almost like the term "Religious" or "spiritual"...it's just depends on whose using it.
Of course we all know steroids/GHG is illegal....but there are so many things that can be done in this industry that could be considered "NOT NATURAL" just depends on the individual you ask and if they really believe a person is that genetically gifted or not...But I agree with the other posters..at the end of the day..You can't judge ppl for what they choose to do..if you don't like it then just don't support it....in essence, that's the only way it'll stop. And right now, the IFBB is being supported, so therefore it's not going to stop anytime soon. Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100%!! I just don't believe you have 2b on steroids 2 become a Figure pro..and the reason I say that is b/c I'm no where near a pro...I just did my 1st National Qualifier a few months ago..and ppl are already telling me to watch the legs....and I've never ever been in a room w/ steroids...let alone taken any!!!
So it's just not fair to always insinuate the use of steroids when you see a chick who looks to be too muscular....b/c it just might be genetics and the ability to put on muscle mass fairly easily.

Very, very well explained, IFBB Pro. I totally and completely understand. It's funny, but my husband has explained the same thing to me with regards the swirl going on with steriods and baseball. Being bigger, better, faster, stronger is something the sport is expecting and it puts pressure on the athletes. I thank you for your very wise insight into this subject and I hope you understand that my frustration isn't towards any one athlete or anyone who uses steriods. I guess it's just frustrating to see the measures one has to take in order to compete in a very competitive world. I am just really very naive.

well A LOT of girls i know who compete...and NOT EVEN ON A NATIONAL STAGE YET...jump to take anavar, winny, clen, etc. And then ASSUME im taking the same. i tell them NO, and they go wow! But i say HARD WORK AND YEARS of dedication to lifting is what it takes for some of us. Betsy and I are by no means big girls..blessed with great legs or lats, etc. But we put the work in, and they like our look on stage b/ we do remain feminine and have the "look" that I think they are looking for. we have a lot of work to do, but to me it a long term goal...i look forward 3-4 years...and realize that true growth takes time...and we want to reamin natural. its the one thing my trainer (who trains lots of pros) says to us. "Don't get caught up in that, you girls just keep working hard" and i take his words seriously.
Just my .02 cents too. Not bashing anyone who DOES take stuff....but you have to understand it totally goes on... Ive even been told by other girls that when we do step it up nationally, we NEED to take stuff. Umm NO THANKS i will stay natty and how ever far that takes us will be a great accomplishment in my eyes!:D

Understandable.....don't think you're bashing at all. I am learning that alot of things are more prevalent then I thought.

Thank you Xena. I wasnt sure how you would recieve it, just explaining the facts. Theres nothing wrong with being naive(not knowing) as long as one continues to learn and gain knowledge. Knowledge is the key to improvement and try make the world a better place. :)

Hi IFFB Pro..off the subject..but I love ur avatar. I bought 2 t's from jerry at the Arnold..but yours Avatar must have been sold out b/c I didn't see it! I'm go'n 2 have to get that tee...2 cute!
Supposely TU is a tested show...can anyone vouch for this?
For fitness and figure only the overall winners are tested as soon as they get offstage.
I think either the winner of each class or top 3 of each class of men's and womens' BB are tested the same way... it is done after finals at the night show

It's there on the Iron Asylum webpage, under the black t-shirt designs. Jerry moved it from the white t-shirt page.

OK...the overall winner...b/c i had a friend who competed there in 2006, and she says one of the class winners was not tested.

That might've been the year my friend competed. She said the guy who submits these tests were either sick or something with him being there fell through. So she said NOONE was even polygraphed.
EDIT: Oh ok. I re-read what you wrote. You said, "one of the class winners were not tested." I don't know then???

Media Savvy (Yeah, right)
Readers familiar with Pump & Circumstance in IRON MAN may recall that I’m not keen on rumors about things that allegedly occurred when I was not in the room. That goes for everything from gerbils up movie stars’ behinds to those secret meetings the judges are always holding to decide how they’re going to fix the results. It still amazes me how fast the flimsiest statements can become fact these days, courtesy of Ye Olde Internete. So when Bodybuilding.com Webcast co-hosts Nancy DiNino and Chaundra Tangi stuck a microphone to my head near the end of their women’s-night-at-the-Arnold coverage and asked what was up with three-time defending Ms. International Iris Kyle’s not being announced in the top six, I was very careful.
I’d been backstage in the large combination media and pump-up room watching on a monitor with a crowded contingent of press folk and interested parties when the finalists were announced. (Ironically, I was looking for Chaundra and Nancy, or I’d have been in my seat out front.) The buzz blitz was immediate, and someone who appeared to have come from the actual backstage area said Iris had been disqualified.
As (in alphabetical order) Lisa Aukland, Dayana Cadeau, Cathy LeFrancois, Yaxeni Oriquen, Betty Pariso and Brenda Raganot were posing down their hearts out above me, I finally located the ladies deep in the catacombs of the Veterans doing audio commentary on the Webcast feed with only some tech guys and computers for company. Starved for news and with time to kill while the judges were voting, they looked to the fresh blood for answers.
And so I described what we suspected, but did not know: basically that the judges may have seen something that they thought detracted from Iris’ appearance. My comments were full of “may-haves,” pointing out that I hadn’t spoken with any officials yet. With still more time to kill, Di Nino bore in (What can ya tell us, Iron Woman???), and with still more cautionaries about the reliability of said info, I mentioned the possible disqualification. Secure that I’d done due diligence, I went on with my life.
Not so fast, Grasshopper.
An hour later I was sitting in Morton’s with my girlfriend Cynthia James, a.k.a. C.J. the suitmaker, whose day backstage plying her stitch-in-time skills had been longer than mine. By now we had the score sheets and I’d talked with a couple of judges: Iris had finished seventh, out of the money, and the disqualification story was exactly that. My video wrap-up would have the correct info, and in the meantime we were two slugs into a couple of really nice glasses of wine when C.J.’s cell rang.
A text message from a friend wanted to know what was up with Iris being disqualified. No, she texted back, Iris finished seventh. Within moments the cell was alive again. No, insisted, C.J.’s friend, she was disqualified. It was reported on Bodybuilding.com and by Shawn Perine at FlexOnline.
So much for due diligence. Oh, well, at least I was in good company.
While C.J. was texting that the score sheet trumps whatever her friend thought he knew, I couldn’t help marveling at the human capacity to believe something just because someone said it on the Internet—and to hear only certain key words. The key words coulda, shoulda, woulda were passing through my mind as well, along with a plan for getting the correct info out there as quickly as possible.
There was more, but you get the idea. As the saying goes, lesson learned. The rumor mill at warp speed is too fast for me. Next time I’ll keep the big, fat, juicy rumors to myself.
