Hello Ladies,
I have a question concerning sugar free syrups. I love to have some on my pancakes but feel a bit confused on how to log these.

See for 1/4 cup it says it has 35 carbs but then for carbs it says 12. So that alone would be about 48 calories. They show sugar alcohol also and I am not sure how to calculate the true carbs...any help figuring this thing out.
How should I log this?and do you count the total carbs or do you minus it out.

Thanks

That doesn't sound sugar free to me. List the ingredients.

If it says maltodextrin - not sugar free.

Sugar alcohols are not free of course - might as well count them as carbs.

Ok, I usually get maple grove farms but didnt find any so I picked up sugar free pancake and & waffel syrup from Walmart. serving size 1/4 cup
calores 35 fat 0, tatal carbs 11g, sugar alchohols 10g
Ingredients, gosh..it has a lot of them, probably all bad.

11g carbs=44 cals

but the labels says 11 carbs...and 35 calories, so I am wondering why....does it have to be with the sugar alchohols

I've come to find that the calorie count on lables aren't always accurate. There have been several instances I've seen where the calorie content had to be higher than what was stated because of the carb, protein and fat content. I think the calorie count is rounded down in a lot of instances. Just my guess.

I believe the sugar free pancake/waffel syrup was created to address a diabetic's needs...

i believe sugar alcohols are less than 4kcals per gram, somewhere b/w 2-3, that's why it's only 35 calories...but if you are counting carbs, i would still count total carbs.

I use the Divinci syrups on my pancakes. They have splenda but no carbs or other hidden sugars. Of course it's not thick like syrup but it'll do:rolleyes:

Thank you...i will read it now. I need to understand this a little more.

Ok, I read it. I don't know how to feel about sugar free products. I think I should probably go with more natural foods and just suck up the calories and carbs. These sugar free products seem scary.

do you encourage the use of these products?

I recently learned that sugar-free gum contains sugar alcohol.

Ladies check out

www.waldenfarms.com

They make ZERO calorie stuff and I swear by the syrups. I cut them out like 3 weeks out but they are a godsend. Luckily the company HQ is about 3 miles down the road from me and Shelly so I can stock up whenever I need them!!
