wow...of course I wasn't there so it's terribly hard to judge but I would have gone with class A for overall...but maybe I just like picking the shorties ;)

It is not just you, I think the winner of the shorty class is way much better than the girl who took the overall... from looking at the pictures.

Is this a National Qualifier? It must be. Loved the A class winner.

Hmmmm, make that plus 3!!!

I also thought there would be more competition, and would also have gone with A for the overall!

Is this a National Qualifier?

I believe so, as last year's winner went onto place 5th in her class at the Figure Nationals... LINK (http://www.musculardevelopment.com/browse/index.php?mode=browse&id=10556&eventcode=1137)

I to was surprised so few competed in this event...

It took place in California.

It was part of a pro show.

It was on webcast.

The winner will have a spread in Ironman.

With all the above you would think 40-50 women would have competed.

I was wrong the show is not a National qualifier. That explains why so few women competed...

FigureRX:

I believe it is because it is not a national qualifier, it is very early in the season, and there are several southern California NQ shows coming up soon like the San Diego and the Orange County.

The quality of competition was not bad then, considering the show was not a National qualifier...so I would consider that an entry-level show. There were some pretty good physiques in there, at least good enough to do well at the next level.

The Ironman is a big name, so you'd think that the amateur show was at least a NQ.

Regardless of National qualifier or not...this show is normally a big show. I was terribly dissapointed that it was as small as it was this year. I am very happy for Dani and her placement but I can tell you this was not her best physique. I would say that she did this as a warm up and another to follow very soon. I don't know if she is doing the Arnold or not but she has been placing very well on the National stage this past year. Great personality and just an all around wonderful person.

As far as the four...I would agree a bit that I thought the class A was a bit more conditioned then the other three. But like I said for Dani this is probably not where she wanted to peak.

I think the overall look of muscular is more on the part of the competitors rather then what the judges are looking for today. With so few in this competition they had no choice but to go for more muscle. With my experience at last years Amateur Arnold....I don't think you will see that type of placing there but I could be wrong. Seemed that last year the competition was sooooo tight that each height class was really awarded differently. The first group might have been great backs, the next group might have been a softer more bikini model look. I know that in my height class it was a nice high tight round booty. When you get so many and everyone is so close...I think you have to look at them and say what is it that this group has 5 of that really stands out and go for that. Just IMO.

Thanks for posting Sioux. Sonia is a complete DOLL. Not just an act she is soooo sweet. She uses the same trainer as I do and las year at the Arnold is the first time I really got to spend any time with her in his room the couple of days prior to contest. An absolute sweetheart.

Thank you for this picture Sioux .... if you think about it, as photography goes it really has everything. A Hardfitness tank top, a Bodybuilding.com (Home shopping network/QVC) water mark, and I think if he tries hard enough IH might just be able to fit a couple more corporate logos on his person. Perhaps a forehead tattoo?

Sigh .... I feel censor free over here ....this is going to be fun!

I was surprised there were so few at this show as well. It was a great show...well run, we were treated like rock stars, backstage was a blast and all of the competitors were so friendly! The coverage was phenominal and I made some great industry contacts. I think the thing I cherish the most is the friends I made at this show. Hannah, Ana, Lisa, Shawna, Lilia and Debbie...Thanks for reaching out and making me feel so relaxed. It was a great experience and I hope to see more people there next year!
