How much sleep is necessary for you to function on a regular basis?
Everyone's bodies are different and I believe we all have learned to function on a varied amount of sleep!
I for one, am a sleeper :) 8 hours during prep, 9-10 offseason.
What about you, and how do you feel sleep effects you?

I don't get a lot of sleep because of the hours I work and being in contest mode I have to still get up for that dayum morning cardio and go back at night. I may average only about 5-6 hrs of sleep during the work week and thats with 2-3 hrs of training/cardio and 8 hrs of work.
I was so tired today that I didn't get up for my cardio. I'm still sleepy. I know thats bad but I have 3 more days for my other 3 cardios. Nope. Not having enough sleepy does not make me happy. LOL
Need or get? I need about 6-8 hours to feel really good but average only about 4.

Some days i get lil sleep and some days I get a lot of sleep...
Like this weekend working the show I wasnt waking up til 9...after the show I was getting out of bed at 10 but Im a night owl...but I do this during the school yr too...I have to be at school @ 730...some mornings r rough...but by 9am Im cool...
Unfortunately for me this is NEVER consistent. When I'm dieting I have a hard time falling asleep since I fall asleep hungry. When I wake up I have a hard time going back to sleep because I wake up hungry.... so despite NEEDING probably 8 or so I usually get 4-6 when dieting which is hard. In my off season I thankfully get more......

YES, I AM ALSO A SLEEPER!! IF ONLY WE DID NOT HAVE TO SLEEP. I COULDN'T IMAGINE WHAT WORK I COULD GET DONE!! I STILL DON'T THINK THAT THE HOUSE WOULD BE CLEAN THOUGH.
WE JUST LEARNED IN SCHOOL THAT SLEEP IS THE NUMBER ONE ON THE LIST OF BEST THINGS FOR DEFYING THE AGING PROCESS!!! NOT SURPRISING THOUGH. IT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE. CELLULAR REPAIR, DETOXIFICATION, REGENERATION, HORMONE PRODUCTION AND RELEASING, RESTING THE BUSY BRAIN, WHILE REM SLEEP PROVIDES EXERCISES IT AT THE SAME TIME WITH IMAGINATION AND DREAM STATE. ETC., ETC., ETC.

I get between 6-8 hours each night. I'm sleeping MUCH better in the off-season (actually falling right asleep & sleeping through the night.) During contest prep, I had such a horrible time sleeping & woke up very early every morning! Not enough sleep makes me a total crank!
I like to get about 8 or so, unfortunately it winds up being only abot 6 most nights

I NEED a lot. At least 9 hours or else I feel sick- hungover like and racing heart rate. On the weekends I try to get in a nap as well.

I usually get about 5 - 6 hours a night on-season and off-season... during the weekends I sleep more than 6 just because the gym doesn't open until 8am.

I need 8 hours for sure, If I am on vacation or somewhere that allows me to just sleep,I will typically get 8 to 10.
But with AM Cardio, Work, Working out, life... I get 4 to 6.

Agree with Amber.
I sleep 4-5 hours in my training days (9 hours I have to be in my job in the office, than trainings, 3 hours of cardio.... cooking - no time for the sleep :banghead: ) I am sleepy too. :banghead:
In my free days I sleep 8-9 hours as well as during the weekend. I am able to sleep 10-12 hours when I am really really tired :o But 8 hours is enough to feel comfortable.
I've noticed during the final weeks of competition prep, my need for sleep has gone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down from what I usually have. However, I find I need a nap every now and then or else I tend to crash and burn.

During the week I usually only get about 5/6 hours sleep, and am usually struggling to keep myself awake on the bus journey in to the gym/work. On the weekend, I try to just let myself sleep until I wake up instead of setting the alarm. Sometimes then I can sleep right through for about 12 hours.
My last show last year I didn't get any sleep at all during the final week, but this time around it's been fine and I've crashed as soon as my head has hit the pillow.

I need approx. 8 hrs to function properly. Any less and I get sleepy and don't perform at my best, any more and I get drowsy and lazy.

I sleep as much as I have time for, which is generally 5-6 hours. Between my job(s), commute, training, cardio, cooking, etc, adequate sleep is just not in my schedule sometimes.
ANYWHERE FROM 8-12 HRS...BUT I HAVE KIDS SOOO 10 MAX....ON A GREAT DAY.

I average 7-7.5 hours Sunday - Thursday. Fri & Sat, I average 8-9 hours of sleep. If I get less than 6 hours in a night, I don't feel like myself and I'm off all day. I also get those naps in over the weekend or if I take days off from work.

I know for myself I am usually in bed by 11:30-12midnight and up @ 5:20 in the morning. This is during the work week. On the weekends I sleep until 6:30
I love my weekday sleep schedule alot.
I remember when I actually tried to get myself to a 2 or 3 hour sleep schedule like Nixon and Lincoln did with a couple of 20 minute power naps during the day to recharge the batteries but I was only able to get the sleep down to around 3 1/2 hrs and still felt exhausted. I know it sounds weird but I was thinking of how many things I could get done if I had a 21 hour day. Eventaully my body decided for me what it needed for rest so we (me and my body) negotiated and came to the current sleep schedule. :) lol If you know me personally I am almost annoying with all of the energey I have so my rest schedule must be working for me.
Melody thinks I need 8 hours for recovery but I am good with the current rest schedule.
Cheers!

Itīs about 4-5 hours effective sleeping. If itīs natural sleep Iīll wake up a few times/night. And when it is artificial sleep. I can sleep much more... http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/muede/b030.gif
8-10 or I am brain dead.:o

On a good day I get 7-8 but normally it's closer to 6.5; I can function on 5.5 hours if I need to.

I function best on about 9/night. My children and household responsibilities usually don't allow for it though. I try not to get less than 6-7/night.

Off-season, I can sleep for days. When I'm prepping for a show, I find that I just can't sleep as long...maybe 5 or 6 hours a night. If I try to sleep longer, I feel like I've been hit by a bus...
