When I went to the Ironman/Fit Expo, I learned from two judges that there is the possibility of a new competition category starting called Classic Bodybuilding :strong:. There may be a couple of test shows to see hw it goes. It is supposed to be a more muscular look than figure/fitness but also have a look that is more "natural" (not chemically enhanced). The classes would be by height and weight, for both men and women.
What do you guys/gals think? I'm on the fence about this, not sure if its a great idea ...just wanted to share what I heard in case any of you who are going to the Arnold hear any more info on this...

This sounds familiar, I believe the IFBB Female rep Betty Pariso wanted such a category.
Not sure if this is good, or bad, for the sport.

I don't like this idea if they are going to combine it with figure/fitness and bb'ing. That means way longer shows! UGH!

Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. Right now the judges still dont even know eactly what they want with the current categories, why add more confusion?
Why dont they just take a better look at the current bb standards and reward the not-so masculine physiques, reward the looks of women like Melissa D, Lisa Bickels, Cathy Le Fracois, Debbie Bramwell, Cindy Phillips, etc. They are muscular but also still feminine and not off-putting by their size. IMO :o They should try and regroup the categories they already have and get those perfected before starting something new.

I actually think that they are doing that right now...or trying to.

We already have it in IFBB. For men it is very popular in Europe and in Finland we already took that class for women too. It is very good for those who will do more than quater turns on stage and who will not take it to that level which is needed in bodybuilding. It works here well, because we do not have that much competitors.. (compared to that what u have in the States..)
But... at the same time I dont understand that why to add one new category. I mean it is possible to do bodybuilding even if you are not THAT big.. because bodybuilding is much more than just size.. But maybe ok for those who have the size of an average figure girl, but who wants do some front doubles and so on ;)

I like the idea of physique but like y'all already said, when the categories already into play can't seem to be judged consistantly then why add to the confusion...
if they would just reward what they're asking for it'd be better...don't let one girl get away with it b/c she's "cute" and not another b/c she's "not"...I mean really...or my favorite in the heavier classes is when they have dry/ripped, soft, dry/ripped, in between, dry/ripped, soft, etc...you're like um, huh???

Something out of Ironage no doubt. Question though, what would be the difference between "Natural" and "Classic"?
