View Full Version : 2nd Pro Card! You're the judge, Claire or Jennifer?

At the NPC USAs only two women bodybuilders are awarded pro cards (overall winner & runner up overall winner). Only at the NPC Nationals do all weight class winners turn pro.

Claire O'Connell won the lightweight class (1st 4 photos).

Jen Scarpetta won the light heavyweight class (2nd 4 photos).

Who do you feel should have been given the second pro card?

I would say Jennifer Scarpetta.. very different physiques though. Claire having better details in back shots and has better back, Jennifer clearly better stucture ... anyone has photos from over all comparisons?

Honestly I think a lot of women looked amazing and many have a pro physique and could deserve a pro card : Claire and Jennifer both do.

Holly Geersen, Marla Murray, Nathalie Ariel also looked fabulous and have the potential to turn pro soon !

I was forgetting Barbara Fletcher, I cant' understand her 5th place she looked perfect I had her 2nd easily ...

its ashame that all the hard work and sacrifice fbbs put in its only 2 Pro cards. (ok i will reframe from any bikini bashing comments :rolleyes:) Claire deserved the 2nd but all four class winners looked outstanding.

Claire was bigger (pound for pound), thicker, denser & better conditioned. Jen has a better X-frame. Claire can successfully compete right now with pro women at her height. Jen will need to add size, and better conditioning. I chose Claire.

My answer will sound confusing, but I personally would have given it to Claire. However, it's become very obvious to me by the judging this year that ultra conditioning/striated glutes is being looked down upon so from the apparently new judging criteria I would give it to Jennifer for coming in smoother like Sarah Hayes.

I dont think its about judging down striated gluts. Its more like awarding clearly better structure/frames/lines/symmetry..

Or well how do I know ..

well I at first thought Claire for the back shots also .. but become totally befuddled for I LOVE Jennifers all around shape .

I am clearly not a fan of the ultra conditionned look but conditioning is an important criteria but not the most important.
Structure and lines should definitely be the most important especialy in the case of judging amateur competitions where the goal is to award pro status to women who can do well in pro ranks and not only have a token role (and I am not talking about Claire or Jennifer but from what happened in older competitions).

Kudos to both women for bringing great packages; I think it was great competition. I voted Claire based on overall look that appealed to me.

Does anyone know why class winners in figure and bikini get pro cards, but not class winners in fbb?

Tough call.

I'd give the nod to Jennifer for her total package. She has beautiful structure and symmetry, and though her conditioning isn't crazy peeled? I do think it's good enough to give her the win.

Claire is impressive, though, with her freaky conditioning and mass. Hard to believe she's a lightweight...wow!!!

Overall, I'm super excited to see the FBB quality that's on the national stage. Looks like the competition was FIERCE!!!!

Claire!! from the back she kills her. Jen is too soft from the back, yes its about symmetry however conditioning is part of that and if its not all the way there, it's not there.

Claire from the back with them striated glutes is beyond belief, but Jen from the front is equally amazing. I give the edge to Claire.

As far as I know, it's because of the NUMBER of competitors per division. There are far more women competing in figure and bikini so the ratio of competitors to pro cards is very skewed.

Thanks to all that showed me support, personally I look at the overalls pics and I think all four of us deserved a pro card, but that is not the way it is at the USA. and Janet Kaufman the week before so so so deserved that card.

All I know, is I am glad I was not a judge at that show. The classes where all loaded, and all four class winners looked great.

I would definitely go with Clair
Muscularity, shape, conditioning
and she shows she can repeat it time and time again

I understand the judge go for structure but that means going for potential maybe some people with structure will never come in conditioned and with enough muscle so why shouldn't the person who came in right get the card??? :confused:

Assuming their physiques were exactly the same at all 3 events, the win would go to Jennifer at USAs, and to Claire at North Americans or Nationals.

I'm not sure what Claire's plans are for the rest of the year, but if her body can handle it, she doesn't need to change to thing in regards to her physique presentation.

There are a lot of reasons for all the athletes and fans of women's bodybuilding to be really excited right now and I'm bummed that I probably will not be able to attend the NAs or Nationals. :(

I don't understand this comment at all?? why would the show make a difference on jennifer at usa's but claire at a different show? why would that matter? So If they both did the na's you award Claire with the pro card but not at the usa's??

The USA judges are the only ones who seem to be trying to get the bodybuilders back to a figure look. I'm pretty sure the Canadian and Mexican judges would reward Clare's muscle size and conditioning.

I agree on the judges statement on the usa's is wanting the bodybuilders to look more like figure. So that has determined to leave that show off my list of shows to consider for next year. I am a conditioned competitor and in no way a figure crossover. Vegas is expensive anyway.
