Jillian Reville looked her best ever on stage this past weekend at the NPC Team Universe Championships.

It's heartbreaking to work your ass off, present to the judges your best ever physique, and be awarded last call out.

At least here at SC, she placed! Well done Jillian, you made us proud! :respect:

Next up for this young lady is the NPC Battle OF Champions in a 1.5 weeks.

No offense but not sure what the point of this post is as there were several other women who are in the same boat. Working your ass off and being your best doesn't always equate to a top call-out.

Absolutely.

I am aware of that.

I am sure many women can relate to Jillian. :respect:

Because at SC this is Jill's (and many ladies) home on the web.. I completely understand why he posted it.. Jill is our friend, and when your friend's get screwed you let them know that you notice it and that you understand. :P

If "several" other ladies were active SC members, he would do the same post for them too... This is why I love SC, and am spending less and less time anywhere else on the internet. People here are nice and they actually care about the other members ,,,,:)

This exactly what's wrong in my opinion. A true friend would be honest and not say "oh you got screwed" just because they're your friend.

Too many people are cheerleaders and aren't honest with each other in regards to competition. Does she look good? Of course. Did she get screwed? No.

I am a true friend, and I stated she looked her best ever (true), and IMO she deserved to place. No one asked me to start this thread, nor would I if I didn't believe what I wrote above. :)

Taking last callout is hard for everyone. I think that Jillian has a wonderful physique, but appears a bit hard particularly the delts, back and legs. However, placings change as bodies change. I am sure that she will change up accordingly and do better in the future!

Again, a lot of people, including myself, get the dreaded last callout. I have always asked for the keen advice of Sandy Williamson should I be at a show when she is head judging. She is a busy lady and I keep my question short...and mearly ask what I need to do next and move along on my way. I have to say that when I follow her advice no matter how small the change in favor of her suggestion(s), it has always shown a positive response in future shows.

Props to Jillian bringing it always conditioned :respect:

...people just need to remember, its not how you look but how you look compared to the others. If the show is good and class really competitive, a killer physique can place quite low. And then, sure, we do hope all the best for the competitors, but everyone cant win... some HAVE to place out of TOP 5, some out of TOP 15. Thats the name of the game - CONTESTS.

Jillian, you look amazing! I believe I can honestly say i know how you feel as I too was in a simular position as yourself, but with the kind sincere words I've received from this wonderful site and the wonderful members, I’ve been able to keep my chin up. And I urge you to do the same... You look great, don't let what a panel of 9 think, stop you, but rather let the many friends, supporters and family you have propel you to greatest! :respect:

Keep it up, Jillian!!

First off, thanks for making this thread Sioux! And thanks for all the complements from everyone!

I think a lot of the ladies that are members here that did Team U felt they didn’t fall in line where they thought they should. It happens at every show, local and at National shows. Everyone feels they step on stage at their best, and for the most part it is our PERSONAL best, but that doesn’t mean we always should place or compare to others on stage... like someone stated above the judging is subjective and at times seems to be different from class to class. And it is what it is...

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and stepping on stage opens the flood gates for all different types of criticism, but that is part of what we do! We, as competitors in this ridiculous “sport” need to have tough skin in order to survive and keep pushing on when we don’t do as well as we thought we should have, or get really terrible feedback from the judges, or have people that are fat and out of shape tell us that we are imperfect and need to change our physique. But its our choice to either make the changes or stop competing… or change from figure to bikini or Fbbing or Fitness…

b)NO ONE say anything about me and top call outs… I didn’t say I deserved that, nor did Sioux… I just dont think i should have been at the BOTTOM of the class....

d)I don’t blow smoke up people asses… and don’t expect that done to me… I take the critiques from the judges and run with it when I have to…

Hmmmm..... i wasnt at the show but wondered... how did they take comparisons? Did they just take 1st, 2nd, 3rd call out etc with different girls or did they mix girls from 1st , 2nd call out etc?

IMO in such big line ups with lil differences on girls they should take way more comparisons. How they can give "right" placings if they dont COMPARE.....

I was there and they just took 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc call outs and once that group was done they filed them off stage. If they were trying to decide between like 5th, 6th etc they would keep those 2 girls and then add a couple more to them.

In my opinion after 1st and maybe 2nd call outs the rest of the callouts were kind of a crap shoot. There were such tiny little differences in most of the line up that I don't really know how they could have judged most beyond the top 8-10.

We all came out on our own at first, front pose, model turn, back pose, model turn, wave and off to the side…. Then they split us up into groups of about 8 girls, brought us through our monitories. Then pulled top 5, did comparisons, next 5-6 girls, next 5-6 girls and so on till the last man standing…

I think everyone agrees. The competitions are subjective. I am sure if you took the same girls in front of different sets of judges. The placings would turn out different each time.

Yes, my heart goes out for the girls who get last call out. Still they are winners.

As soon as you step on stage in your stripper heels, you're a winner in my book :) You know you look bangin' and you know you worked hard. Judges see different things on different days. We never know what is wanted and it all depends on who shows up to play that day. You looked great, Jillian!!

I was there too and I have looked at the different pics to see what the lens caught and I do not agree either with you being in the last call out.

We all know that the real judging begins when they do the quarter turn to the back and they face the curtin. Look at the first 3 pics which are the three call outs before the last, then look at the last pic from the last call out. Jillian is in the middle.

Well I was at the show too!! :waving: Mel!!! (kept Mel company a bit at the night show ;)) and there is NO WAY Jillian deserved last place!

At pre judging I was sitting next to Heather Fosters and Ivan Mischins (sp?) trainer Lance. I had no idea who he was, nor he I. We got to talking DUE to the erratic callouts! (and because I had to keep stepping over him to use the bathroom, and he had his foot in a cast)

He had no clients in the show, and was merely there as a spectator. When he told me who he was I asked if he could explain to me what he thought the judges were doing, because the callouts did not make sense to me. He was at a loss to explain it. He was able to point out which girl had already done too many shows (conditioning) whose suit choice was bad, whose posing was off ect...and he couldnt explain it except to say by D class the judges had seen so many girls, they could not see what they were looking at anymore and they needed at break.

While he did not have Jillian as first (the girl who took second, he put first) and he liked how Charmaine Jackson looked...he had Jillian as 2nd or 3rd, and pointed out she was THE most conditioned in her group. By the time she came up at last call out he said to me "your friend was screwed and did not deserve last call out"

I agree with the statement that the judges just get overwhelmed by seeing so many girls, and are just kind of like "eh whatever" by the time they get past 6th or 7th place. Also, I've noticed from looking at scoresheets that placings from judge to judge get more erratic past those top spots (probably due to lack of time to compare properly), so placings turn out weird due to the averaging of scores. It really is a shame that better comparisons can't be made, but I can see how difficult it is with soooo many people up there.

PERSONALLY, I would have had you a couple callouts earlier, but I tend to like leaner, more muscular figures so I would be a poor source of advice to you. And I don't know you from Adam, so you know I'm not blowing smoke. ;)

Anyhoo, best of luck to you!

I believe you said: "Do I feel I got “Screwed” this time: FUCK YES and I have the right to say so…."

Waiting to hear you back how you "got screwed". At the end of the day would you have felt better being 12th instead of 16th? Would that have then justified your commitment to the show?

If you are "playing the game" you might want to start by avoiding saying you "got screwed" on a message board and take the judge's feedback for the next show.

My two cents:
Looking at photos by yourself you look great and you should be proud of your physique. Compared to the other physiques in the class, could you have been in a higher call out? Yes. In my opinion, you were dropped down because of the overly vascular arms and striations in your quads. That's one thing head judge Sandi Williamson will count you down on. Agree or disagree, I've heard her tell it to more competitors than I can count. When you posed you seemed nervous and un sure of yourself. All of that matters when competing against a big class. Who knows perhaps you go into the next show with less vascularity, don't flex your quads and present differently you aren't in the top call-out or two?

I have nothing personal against you, I don't know you. It's just annoying to see people come on and complain after a show. It serves no purpose and you have nothing to gain by doing so. It's great that Sioux wants to show his support by starting a thread about it but if you need a dozen people online to tell you how you got screwed to feel better then perhaps you are competing for the wrong reasons. I wish you the best.

I understand what you are saying about vascular arms and separated quads..but look at some of the pictures...here is where I am lost a bit. I think the girl that took second in class D has separation in her quads but no arm vascularity. (pics from MD) and the girl that took second in E has major vascularity in her arms, but no quad separation. So Jillian is getting marked down for having both, instead of one over the other or neither?

I do think that with so many girls in each class, that yes the judges DO get overwhelmed, and I do feel people get overlooked. And yes Jillian is my friend, and I want her to succeed and get that pro card..but it is my opnion she got over looked, and in no way deserved last call outs. I also feel Danielle was overlooked too. Lance and I were also trying to figure out how Betsy was placed so much lower then Shelly when their physiques are so similar. I feel Betsy should have been higher as well.

Like everyone is saying its a subjective sport. And yes, it is what it is. Jillian will make the necessary changes and she will succeed, of that I have no doubt.

I have to echo Isaac on this one. Jillian you have obviously been working your tail off but competing at this level, the fleas come with the dog. Less than desirable placing is a tough meal to eat but when that does occur it will reveal your character. My wife Melody always placed high (top 3) before she earned her pro card but now in the IFBB ranks she has had to learn to accept her placings with grace and dignity but more importantly garner constructive feedback so she can improve her package on stage.

From what I saw in the pics your flow looked a little off. Here is what I mean: From the back your back could have opened up a little more to add to the hourglass shape. Also Isaac was dead on with Sandy. That was Melody's issue. Sandy responded to Melody and discussed her placing at the Pitts Pro and told her "Melody do not flex your quads. I don't want to see all three heads. This is what killed your placing at this show". The judges will give great feedback and they appreciate the inquiry as well. Melody always applied the feedback she received and was rewarded for it.

As far as Jason starting this thread I understand his reasoning behind it BUT and I preface the BUT part I think it should be used to grow from rather than mindless complaining. Let's make something constructive from it.
Jillian keep doing your thing and stay the course. You have a great foundation and are building on it. Your time will come!

So true.

Do EXACTLY as the judges say, especially if you are lucky enough to get Sandy's advice. After all, there will be no fighting about it since this is the way it is done. Just be open to critique and do exactly as suggested.

Don't, and you will stay where you are, eventually fall back and then fade away.

Don't bitch about it since the judges are right here watching or hearing about is second hand. It doesn't sound good.

Don't like it, Don't compete. Someone else is waiting on the sidelines and will be very happy to take your place on stage.

Peace
:hula:

see thats all i wanted to hear from you... and i didnt say i got screwed till you started saying i was placed where i should have been. and i never even said i should have been in first or second or third call outs... just not the last one....

Looking at photos by yourself you look great and you should be proud of your physique. Thank you!

and yes i agree, my quads are to separated for what they want now, i dont flex my legs like i used to... also working on holding my back so that it doesnt look so muscular is another thing i need to work on...

as for the valcularity, i drank almost a gallon of water before i got on stage, obviously i need more... this too, i see your point and agree...

as for my posing, you are the first person that has ever told me i looked nervous and unsure...

Some other feedback: From Linda, who I spoke to on the phone with at length and discussed everything, and was VERY appreciative for the time she spent with me on the phone and all her advice... She was very positive and had GREAT feedback as to how I need to change a few things. and YES she knows I am going to make the changes needed...

Shoulders are too capped – this is unfortunate, I actually haven’t trained shoulders since before the Arnold… SO I already found a different way to pose for my shoulders to not look as big..

We already talked about my quads…

And that my suit was not the right color for me… so a new suit has been ordered for the next shows… so that issue is fixed... Thanks to Tamee!!

At the end of the day I would have felt fine not placing if I thought that ALL the girls that did place actually looked good. there are some girls that were called out before me that I think looked very sloppy and not conditioned... this is why I was not happy.... that people are being placed ahead of quality conditioning….

Hey if I have too much muscle, that sux but it’s obvious something I have to work around… it also confuses me that a lot of the girls that turned pro have a lot of muscle… so why cant I?

It's great that Sioux wants to show his support by starting a thread about it but if you need a dozen people online to tell you how you got screwed to feel better then perhaps you are competing for the wrong reasons.

and i dont need people to kiss my ass,,, i dont really care what people think or say and welcome any kind of advice, but its how its said. people can say nice things, people can give me any critizism, but your tone is what pissed me off... and i dont compete for anyone else... i do it for me cause i like training, i like setting goals and reaching them.

i dont know you either and dont have any bad wishes toward you. Hope the rest of your week is good:)

Jillian has, is and will listen to any and all feedback from judges, and experts like yourself. She will improve upon her posing and presentation. :)

Hmm, imo that was the problem. When u are not opening it, your structure looks a bit more like H from back than x/v-framed. I would have opened it to create better x and v.

And that my suit was not the right color for me…

Hmmm, means what? IMO this is the worst shit I can hear. The suit colour does not and should NOT have an absolut value itself. Only way it should affect is the impact the colour may have on the illusion of the physique ( for example suits get washed out against the skin + u loose the benefits you might try to get with suits (cut etc) etc etc .. ) in my opinion, there was nothing wrong with ur suit colour.... Or what do I know ;)

Anne P. There is merit to what she is saying. It should not have value but I want to go extreme to make a point. I white suit jeweled will be distracting from what is being judged which is the physique. I wonder if the feedback given was made to point out that the suit distracted from her physique? But if that were the case the judge should have said so. Even the cut of suits can present a package that can score a competitor lower if it doesn't accentuate the competitor's strengths. The problem with suit comments with regards to color is personal preference from the judges IMO. I think the only feedback with regards to suit is if the cut was wayy off base.

Jillian, I agree with Anne P regarding the back shot. Look at the back pic posted on this thread. Your back was not opened up which deterred from the hourglass shape judges are seeking. The back shot looked more "Boxy" rather than shapely. From other shows you have done your back is strong and you have a nice V-taper just work it next time.

Again Stay the course!

Yes linda said that the bottom of my suit was too low in the front, which another judge had told me prior to go lower, so my next suit i hope to hit it in the middle:) Linda said that because ti was so low that is made my midsection look more boxy then i am... which is a good point... she also said the color was too dark and i should go for a lighter suit. i am goign for a light lilac/pinkish tone this time... we shall see...

i have a week and a half to practice posing ;) we will see how it turns out!

THAT is great feedback from someone in the know who was actually there witnessing everything the judges did...always choose wisely when considering and absorbing feedback.

Jillian, you look great in your photos and you've obviously made great progress in transforming your physique.

Placings in shows are no measure of personal progress and personal improvement. Ever.

Congratulations!! Do you love doing this? If so, keep on bringin' it and finding the joy in the ENTIRE process.

To paraphrase some of my favorite athletes when asked what was their favorite, most memorable victory, game, contest, etc., the answer that always makes me jump up and cheer is: the NEXT one!! :respect::awesome:

Well the cut comment makes sense, but... imo there is no point about colour. Actually darker works in my opinion better than lighter ones.. well I guess that was just a personal opinion ... (but should not have anything to do with judging as it seems not affected on the illusion of physique what judges are there to judge.) Sorry this was a lil off topic, was just interesting : )

Keep going , girl : )

I been training with Jillian for the entire year, and I must say, the girl made it a point to bring to the stage the best physique ever.. A couple of things I want to mention.. Her posing was on point.. I just think those pictures always catch her when she is positioning herself to open her back... I mean, I went through most pictures, and I saw many- even Pros not opening their lats wide enough.. I really don't think she deserved last callout, but like someone said in an earlier post, Once 1st and 2nd callouts, the judges might just don't even bother with the rest of girls??? So why not accept less entries, so everyone gets a chance to be seeing, thus making the shows less stressfull for the judges??I know, I know that will never happen, bc It's money involved. Like I told Jillie, For this year, just listen to what the judges, and only what the judges say.. She did her best to bring a great conditioned package and she wasn't rewarded, so now, she must take the other route.. One thing I know for sure is, that she won't give up, no matter the critques. And believe me, this is no cheering.. We discuss many things regarding what shows, and how many shows and suits and posing, and if something is wrong or if we know she shouldn't be doing, we tell(I'm speaking of myself, Melody and her coach PJ).. It is not what you say to a person, is how you come out and say that makes the big difference...

If you compare all photos - Musculardevelopment, RX, bodybuilding.com and they all show a similar pose probably not the photographer(s).
