I currently take Red Blast and Beta-alanine about 30 min. before I train. Both are available through Anafit, who sponsors me.

I can't say enough about the Red Blast. I really feel the energy and power from it without any weird jitters or anything.

Anyone who takes Beta-alanine knows "the tingles" can be a little weird, but I'm getting used to it.

So....what about everyone else???

I've taken as many as 5 or 6 (I think thats what Ulter had said) and I still don't notice anything from it... or maybe thats the problem that I am expecting to "feel" it?!?!

Yeah, it's not much of a stimulant or anything. I feel a little something, but nothing like some of those other pre-wo supps or thermos, which I LIKE. Some supps really wack me out.
I DO notice an increase in strength, and I feel more focused through my workouts. I REALLY notice a difference between when I do and don't take it.
5 does the trick for me.
I guess everyone responds to things differently though.

How do you like the beta-alanine?

Nope. Just water w/ the banana. I get a really efficient workout at sunrise on an almost empty stomach. The banana is good for quick energy. Sometimes I just have the H20. I'm guessing you asked that question for a reason. Talk to me, Badger.

Hmm this might be where I differ as I don't use supps. I eat my protein and complex carbs (either brown rice or russet potatoes)

Sometimes I drink a crystal light energy packet in my water but don't think that is considered a supp :p

I have no desire to use supps when I am seeing results but I don't judge others that use them either ;)

Offseason pre-WO I take Nitro Fire. In season pre-WO I take either Thermo Fire or Advanced Caffeine. I do take Beta Alanine Extreme, but I don't use it pre-WO as there is really no benefit to taking it then as opposed to any other time of day.

Badgergrl, if the tingles bother you (I hate them) spread your doses throughout the day. 800mg/serving should ease it.

You are right- there's really no need to take it pre-wo. I had been taking 3g all at once before training. At first, I kind of liked the tingles. I guess it made me feel like it was "doing something." It has started to drive me crazy, and I have now stopped the beta-alanine, but maybe I'll do as you suggested and spread the dose out.
Ness, do you notice the benefits of it while you're taking it? I know it helps with creatine utilization and lactic acid buildup, but I can't say I've noticed any real difference with it.

Absolutely. The thing with BA is that you have to take it daily to maintain saturation, it isn't a stim so you don't 'feel' anything, and it takes 3-4 weeks for saturation to be achieved. It has the most marked effect on cardio for me - though cardio bores me, even at the end of prep when I'm doing a lot, it's simply not difficult. BA is also good for higher rep range training and I'd recommend it to those who participate in other non-physique sports where endurance is important.

Saturation of what? Can you explain? It's a carnosine precursor, right?

I also spread mine throughout the day (even when I had the same powder that you have badger) and after the first week or so I also never really got any tingles, but I do notice that it helps with endurance as far as cardio and weights both go.

It functions to increase muscle carnosine, which is a strong acidosis buffer.

While it doesn't have any direct effect on lactate production, it does help the muscles deal with the increased acidosis as a result of the increased H+ ions, which is the cause of the dropping pH.

The tingling is supposedly a result of the higher doses triggering a histamine reaction.

The question though becomes whether or not using it generates any tangible/measurable result in one's physique. If it doesn't, it's an expense not worth having IMO.
