11 pro cards will be awarded to women this Saturday evening at the NPC Jr National Championships.
Fitness has three height classes, the overall winner, and all class winners turn pro.

Figure has six height classes, the overall winner, and three class winners turn pro.

Bikini has six height classes, the overall winner, and three height classes turn pro.

Women's bodybuilding has 4 weight classes, and no winners turn pro.

The two women (Josie Zamora & Elizabeth Earhart) who won their classes in figure in 09 at this contest but was not awarded a pro card, have still not turned pro.

The two women (Shay Monroe & Jaime Baird) who won their classes in bikini in 09 at this contest but was not awarded a pro card, did go on to win their pro card at a later event.

Would be nice if they did someday, as we would than see many more women compete in bodybuilding at the Jr Nationals.

Interesting! I had no idea FBB winner didn't get a pro card!! That stink. I assumed all division/class winners earned a pro card. I still have so much to learn with the NPC and national competition rules.

Also, with so many height classes in bikini and figure, how do they decide which figure and bikini winners earn a pro card? By highest scores?

x 2.

The 11 pro-cards given away for the other stuff are 11 too many, if they aren't doing it for bodybuilding.

..... and they wonder why there's a lack of "fresh talent" competing in the ranks of pro BBing.

yea i am alittle confused .. if the overall winner in say figure wins a pro card .. does the 2nd place gal in her class win the pro card ? for she already has won it in the overall ?

did that make any sense? or does it go by highest scores ? wait i think i get it ..

pro cards are not given UNTIL overall is won then it goes to the 3 or whatever they decided for highest scoring class winners ?

Yeah, basically...the top four of the CLASS winners get a pro card. So there are 6 class winners...top 4 go pro in the overall placing.

There should be a female bodybuilding Pro Card! Those ladies deserve it. 2 each the overall and 2nd across the board.

Yes BUT there are other National contests that do not even have Fitness LIKE the USA's, Masters Nationals, AND Nationals. So there are less contests for Fitness competitors to go pro at... Figure and Bikini get ones every show I think,,

But I agree we need more female BB's too!

People often pick on figure when the topic of pro cards come up, but remember 4 times as many women compete in figure, than female bodybuilding.

In the last few years women's bodybuilding has gotten three pro cards.

The NPC USAs now has two cards, and the IFBB North American now has two, as does the NPC Masters Nationals.

So IMO the federation has listened, and have made it more equal than ever before.

When you do the math, the odds of turning pro in female bodybuilding, are better than figure.

That being said I would love to see the overall fbb winner be awarded a pro card at the NPC Jr Nationals.

Yeah the fact that they award no pro cards for bodybuilding at this show and then award 2 pro carbs in bikini by DEFAULT (only 2 competitors in the division so both turned pro) just baffles me

That happen at Team Universe. Their were only two women in bikini class A, and both turned pro.

Yeah def sucks... always been told because it's a junior show...pffftt...lol :)

Even though there is a crap load of figure cards, I remember meeting about 10 girls last year that were pros, and had NO CLUE to who they were because they had never competed since turning pro, or if they had it was like in 2003 or so............So even if there were 5000 pro cards floating out there, only 1/4 are prob doing pro shows.....

They have actually started doing this in the IFPA I believe as of last year? Your pro status is only good for 2 years. I think if you compete and place in a pro show that may requalify you, but if you don't compete, you lose it. I'm sure someone else knows more about it. But yeah, would definitely make things interesting :p

Do the men get pro cards?

The message they're giving is basically that you don't have to train as long or hard to get a figure/fitness/bikini pro-card (seeing as it's a JR show)...but that you need to put your time in to earn that BB pro-card. (No insult intended, just what it seems like from this circumstance).

Whatever the reason, I think a little communication would go a long way to helping people understand the rationale regarding these decisions. The reality is that to build a 'pro physique' as a bodybuilder does typically take many, many more years. Case in point most of the women on the pro stage taking top 10 are typically in their late 30's and 40's...not so for figure and bikini on average, there is a shorter lifespan for most of these ladies and that's why I think it's cool they have Masters Figure now! Gives that extra option at some shows anyway!

Masters figure is apart of three shows now, NPC Masters Nationals, IFBB North American & NPC Team Universe. :)
