Just got word that this is a VERY BIG SHOW!!!! Something like 15 girls in the medium figure class..... with all of the figure classes being quite large!!!! (awesome!)

from the sounds of it there is 10-15 in each of the four figure classes - and then 4-5 in short and tall fitness (good odds for a pro card 1 out of 8 girls gets a card!)

not sure about bikini yet - not many qualified for this event - a handful, so it should be on the smaller side... will be our second CANADIAN BIKINI PRO!

just got word that they haven't even done the second round for figure yet - still on bb... like 6+ hours later!!!! I think our figure girls are falling asleep backstage!

They did the elimination round for the black 2 pc and sent some girls home to shorter up round 2 and the evening show. From what I have heard in terms of comments about figure GO BIG OR GO HOME seems to be the trend! BIG HARD CUT SHREDDED BIG DID I SAY BIG JACKED STACKED LOADED... you know the drill, it is canada for goodness sakes! We don't make em small up here! (at least in the top 3 anyways!) I will know a little more after the second round.... haven't heard about bikini (but imagine they are just as big as the figure girls, maybe a tad softer!).

It seems like the BB is taking forever - so I am thinking it must be a big show! too bad they aren't rewarding pro cards to them as well!

You're right Lori, Rachel did compete at the 2009 Arnold's. The past pics don't do her justice, today she presented a more streamlined package. She's wearing her hair longer as well, a softer look:)

just wondering how some of these girls qualified for this show..... it seemed to me that you HAD TO have placed top 3 at a DRUG tested regional show..... in the past 2 years............. so.......... in BC, we have Kelowna (which is for Alberta gals as well).....

Looks like the provincials organizations allowed some EXCEPTIONS for girls to compete here.... although never competed in the drug tested shows.

I know Rachel did this show a few years back and was qualfied.... but many of the other girls in the line ups I have never seen at a drug tested show?? I didn't realize exceptions were being made... guess it's "on your honor!" system.???:confused:

I know there was a girl in Ontario who won her pro status in WBFF 2 years ago. She didn't accept the title and competed in the CBBF Provincials last June (qualifying her for Nationals). Then, she accepted the pro title and competed in the WBFF pro division in Sept. She is a figure athlete.

It's been SUCH an honor to work with Tanis....back in the day when I started competing, I used to compete against Tanis and totally admired her (OK, and feared her a bit too!). We continued to compete together for years in fitness and then I made the switch to Figure. Tanis continued in Fitness, she is a gifted athlete who works her butt off with no complaints and is a Mom as well!!! She's always had the potential to turn Pro, I am just SO PROUD to be a part of her journey!!!

Kelowna tested top spots of every category, and the year before they tested top 2 of every category!!!! Just to clarify it was in 2007 & 2008 they tested positive and one of the girls was from Alberta. I don't think the 2009 winner tested positive, but it looks like those results were removed, so who knows?????

the girl who tested positive and failed in 2007 competed last year at nationals with you michelle (in tall class)... she took the 2 year suspension, then requalified for nats in alberta.... not sure if it was a tested show or if she smartened up. She also competed in FAME shows as a NATURAL athlete for the 2 years of her failed drug test suspension!

The girl who tested positive in 2008 competes for wbff now --- and they are a "natural" organization as well... but they don't test either, on your honor!

I agree though, if you chose to do stuff fine.... but do the non tested shows and save these shows for the truly natural girls. I was sad to see many girls on stage at this Canadian Naturals... clearly there do to the pro cards being awarded... and not qualified to be there! given a "by" from their provincial orgnanizations. Bc made no exceptions... but the other provinces seem to have sent many who had not done the drug tested shows previous to qualify.

the sad thing is year after year it's the FIGURE GIRLS testing positive at these shows... sure a FEW bodybuilders.... but TOP FIGURE WINNERS... OR LOSERS I guess we should call them!

Teresa Ryan was the overall winner and was definately not a failed drug test... she is trained by dawn Allison and is awesome!!!

well... I have a little bit of a problem with something else that happened at this competition...
Manitoba NOVICE was held 2 weeks ago... there are 2 girls who competed at WORLD QUALIFIERS (this past weekend) who have NEVER qualified at provincials! (provincials is in 7 weeks) who competed at this past weekend's Natural NATIONAL show!!... how? don't you have to qualify top 5 at a provincial or level 2 show?

you actually don't have to qualify at a provincials event - cause most provincials AREN'T drug tested... manitoba is the only exception.

you just have to get top 3 at A drug tested show... mostly regional level shows. We have Kelowna (Alberta is allowed to do this show as well since they do not have a drug tested show), Ontario naturals was in sept, not sure about quebec, etc. But they would be qualified to go from Manitoba based on their top 3 placing at the regional show... no need for provincials....

this is why many were upset about pro cards being awarded..... this show used to only get 4-5 girls in each height class.... this year it tripled in some classes due to the addition of pro cards!!!!

I hate people putting word "Natural" in the name of shows/federation ETC. Better talk about "drug tested" shows. Cause there is and never will be totally NATURAL shows.

A bit OT but an interesting thing to share. While others talk about natural shows, drug tested and non-drug tested shows, our fitness and figure girls here in Finland are tested also during the off season, YEAR AROUND. If you want to compete during the year, you have to buy the licence latest in the end of January of that year and then you can be tested whole year, not only at the shows. And they actually test - 2 of my friends have been tested already during this year outside of contests.

That was the case at one point, a long time ago. I had a friend who did the WQ for years and he recieved a letter stating that he could be tested at anytime without notice. But like I said at one point..... a long time ago.
I would think lack of man power and lack of funding wouldnt hold that true anymore.

I will withhold my opinion on drug testing at physique competitions and my opinion of those who try to put one past the judges and other competitors, as I've already expressed these opinions on this thread on Scott Abel's forum:

I saw that Kevin was there Crystol... did he go down to cheer on some of his competitors or Scott's?? I saw him in some pics with my friends Jericho and Becky.

Gosh, not sure Lori. I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin had a client or two competing. He's very low key about that sort of thing, though. We have to drag any of that sort of info out of him! LOL

Yes, I was shocked to see him in pics at the show backstage.... but totally understand that he'd be helping people.... he probably likes to keep it to himself... but I am sure he had some great athlete's there!!!
