Could anyone share their travel plans for Junior Nationals? I've been looking into flights & hotels and have some questions:

Does anyone know which airport is closer to the venue -- Midway or O'Hare? Does it matter which one you fly into? I got very confused by this, especially since the 2 airlines I typically fly don't even go to O'Hare.

Also.....what other hotels are in the area that are halfway decent with a kitchen? The host hotel is too expensive and I'd rather not spend that kind of loot on my hotel.

Alright....thanks!

Fly into O'hare.

You'd be doing yourself a favor to stay at the host hotel. The venue is inside the hotel. It doesn't get any easier than that. There's also a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel.

Ditto what Danielle said. Unless you've got a really sweet deal on a flight, fly into O'Hare. You could fly into Midway, but the added time/hassle of getting to the hotel isn't worth it in my opinion. The hotel has doubles so maybe see about splitting a room with someone.

Hey!
Genie and I, and maybe some others are staying at the Sheraton Suites Elk Grove. It's going to be about 10 min away but saved us about $100 per night and that adds up when you're staying 2 or 3 nights. We got it for cheap on hotels.com! I called the hotel directly to see if they'd price match and they wouldn't - but Hotels.com had it cheapest. It's a nice place and there is plenty of space to spread out for the weekend as there is a living room and what not. O'hare is the airport you want for sure though, Midway will put you on the other side of town and the taxi fee would be huge!

If you end up staying at the Sheraton, let me know! :)

O'Hare is closer... I work about 5 minutes away from the venue and 10/15 mins from the airport. I know of a couple hotels I know of send me a private email and we can see if I can get you a more reasonable rate.

Thanks.

I don't know about flights (I'm driving), but I booked my hotel at an Extended Stay America. It's 3.5 miles from the Hyatt and every room has a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, range). I have never stayed at an ESA before, but I hear they're pretty descent.

Good luck!

I booked through Orbitz, and it came to roughly $70 per night. I found an online coupon code for $25 off a 3 night stay, so I pretty much didn't pay fees or taxes! I'm not 100% positive, but I think you can also cancel if you find something else (at least 24hr before check-in).

Becca, I saw the pics of the place you're staying and it's beautiful! I don't think Orbitz offered it though:(

Extended Stay is a great idea! I want to be close to the venue.
My boyfriend use to live in Chicago and according to him he "ran the town"... Ah men and their memories from when they were in their 20's. lol So he wants to stay on the Gold Coast where he use to live.
I'm really not into all that... I just want a low stress place with a kitchen and a bed! So maybe I'll book it before he has a chance to change it! lol

Also a note: www.sidestep.com will help find a decent hotel at the best prices... I'm bringing my dogs so I need to have a place I can stay where they can stay too!

Does anyone know what is the going rate for the Host Hotel Hyatt Rosemont is going for these days? I know we get a group rate but haven't found what that "group rate" is.

It is $159 WITH the group rate. There are a bunch of hotels around there fot a lot cheaper- I'm staying at Embassy Suites less than a minute away for $89 a night (that's if you pay up front, but regular rate is $109 a night), and they have a refridgerator/microwave actually in your room. Just check around, plenty of options!
