You people are F-ing CRAZY LOL BUT I LOVE IT!!!!!:awesome:
Who here has tried spinning? Did you like it, did you hate it, do you incorporate into prep, offseason, benefits/negatives?
I use to believe spinning was a CULT LOL - seriously screaming, hooting, hollering, dripping with sweat... but I actually think I could get addicted.
This time around I've got a lil extra fluff on these legs that need to be streamlined (who knew SNACK ATTACKS from Wendy's would go straight to my inner thighs :p) I've been incorporating it only once a week and I actually enjoy it, which I never thought I would say.
Few keys points... I do believe it can be beneficial IF you are
*on a moderate to higher carb diet (too high intensity for keto)
*Only utilize it once maybe twice a week (and I prefer on non lifting days)
*Have some "fluff" to burn (if your legs are lean I could see this EASILY burning muscle)
It's funny I could NEVER EVER understand the runners high (BLAH) but the spinners high surprisingly YES!
*I have never been so drenched (I swear my toes SWEAT)
*Its the only place in the GYM you can sing at the top of your lungs and no one cares LOL (or can really hear you for that matter)
*They turn the lights OFF which is almost euphoric and bad ass and for some reason makes you focus (and thank god cause you really don't want to see how yucky we all look!)
*It takes you periodically out of the "meat head mentality" for a minute and makes you feel VERY ATHLETIC which is a nice little break, although I am ready to throw around dumbbells tomorrow LOL

Hey FM3!! I love spin class...very challenging and i'm drenched w/ sweat too. But you are correct, w/ my diet, I just don't have enough energy to get through it!! But definitely in the off season it will be a staple in my conditioning atleast 2x a week! The only thing I didn't like was more ooohhh so sore bottom the next day. I"ll be investing in some biker shorts w/ the padding!
I love spin classes :D
Actually I liked it so much, I let people talk me into getting certified and now I have been teaching it the past year and a half!!! :yippie:

You know its funny the ones I've taken before it LITERALLY hurt "down there" and my bottom :o... but this particular instructor DOES so many standing or hover lean back intervals, you don't sit much WHICH I actually loved!
That feeling usually goes away though after the first time or two or when you start going regularly ;)
Because I had bought one of those gel pads originally too, but wound up NEVER using it! Thats what I like to do too!! Lots of hill climbs, sprints intervals standing, squats/hovers... you know all the fun stuff!

We did alot of hovering too...but I'm not working w/ much back there anyway, so maybe that's why i was so sore. I remember saying to myself, no wonder Lance Armstrong developed that cancer...can u imagine all the pressure he put's on his jewels from riding that bike all those miles!

Awww thanks Steph ;)
Yeah it did help bring out A LOT of cuts last year when I was cutting for my show, because I kept teaching ALL throughout that too... just had to watch my HR very closely since I was doing a no carb approach :o

Well if you are ever in town you will have to come to one :) Or if I ever move back out that way (which is VERY distinct possibility) and I am teaching you can come too!
They are fun, I like to change up the music too and take requests from the members, because I agree the music helps to make or break a class.

Thats what I don't think people realize is you have FULL CONTROL of your resistance... its not like cardio classes or step classes where you keep up or feel like a fool. LOL

Thats the other part that I really like about spin, its your own SELF PAIN!! SO you can set it to where you want it, and I always let people know that right up front, that if they can't do what I am saying (whether its resistance, speed, etc) then to take it at their own pace, the goal is to just keep those legs going :)

I do spin class once a week and the lady who leads it is brutal! but i totally need that. I just love it! And it's great for anyone cuz you can go at your own pace regardless of your fitness level!

Spinning is the bomb!
I use to go 3 days a week and if I had to miss any of those days I'd feel "OFF".
I truly feel that "runner's high" people talk about when I'm done with the class. The only problem with spinning for me is it makes my legs skinny quickly if I over due it. But I love it!
My husband bought me a spinning bike for my birthday about 7 years ago. I was doing it at home but the vibe isn't the same as it is with others in the class, an instructor, and really good music. So I ended up getting rid of my bike at home.
It's like torture but a good kind LOL

Oooh I looove spin classes! My old gym used to have them all the time... at one stage I was doing 2-3 a day!! OTT!!!! ha ha I'm doing part time study at the mo so I can be an instructor... can't wait!!
My new gym doesn't have them as often now, but I invested in my own spin bike at home, and I've got all the BTS tracks on my ipod :awesome:

That is sooo true! I only go on certain days when certain instructors are there. Sometimes I even drive across town to get to a different class! LOL! Totally addicted! Actually, it's one of the only types of cardio I can do that doesn't bother my back. I was out of commission for a while due to sciatica/bulged disc pressing on my sciatic, so this is really helping me get back into it without feeling it in my lower back for DAYS after!! And yeah, totally hurts my booty, but I bought a gel seat and that helps tremendously!! :D

Not me. Does the seat not ruin your day? My business does not like that feeling. :o

I completely agree with regards to leg shaping. It seems that spinning really forces a lot of blood into the lower quad region which has been a trouble spot for me. A friend recommended that I try lowering the seat a bit more to induce a greater stretch and he was right, it really does help bring out some detail and the lower quad split. 20-30 minutes PWO 2-3 times per week at a nice steady pace has worked well for me.
As for traditional spinning classes, I can't hack it. I weigh about 256lbs and walking up stairs is a chore. I look forward to cutting! :)
Yup and if you focus on pushing through your heels then you nail your hams and glutes ;)

WOW A LOT of spinners :) So my new Saturday Morning routine SPIN 45 min ab class 15 minutes, tan, sauna, shower...I seriously feel like I am Spa ing it up, the little change of pace that excites me! LOL Doesn't take much!
And I'm telling you my "stuff" use to hurt to you get use to it or do a ton of intervals and you don't sit much.
Also I have 3 bike programs in the evenings and the almost pulling the pedals motion really hits the hammies!

AGREEEEED!!! Thats why mine are ALWAYS sore :)
As for my "stuff" it also only hurt the first couple times that I took spinning, I had bought a seat, but hated it plus realized it didn't hurt anymore anyways ;)

I hate spinning...lol
Its funny when i first started i loved it, now it so hard:banghead:
I guess I am just so tired with the weight training that I feel so weak to do the classes.
I try to chim in when I am done weight training to get at least 30 min of the class and get my cardio in.
How many times a week would you say is beneficial to help with losing fat?
Just curious if anyone would have any good song recommendations for a spin class, or just some of your favorites that really get you going during class??

I LOVE spinning!! My instructor is 68 and he plays horrible music but it's a joke....it's not that horrible most of the time, but we all laugh about it.....I love what it does for my legs as I have a hard time leaning them out enough...plus it's not boring and I don't have to think too much while doing it....
I like the 6am class better as it's more "normal" people as opposed to the evening classes where there are more bike racers with the bike outfits on - too intense.
