“As far as changes since Ft Lauderdale, I feel that I could get in better condition for sure as i had that mishap with dehydrating on the plane and having three bags of saline pumped in me at the A&E the morning before the show. So the first thing is to ensure that I get plenty of water drank on the plane especially traveling from the UK. The other change is that I have incorporated boxing into my training program as part of my cardio. I have not been doing this long and can already feel the difference improvement wise it as had to areas of my physique.”

Team Bodysport: You are going into your 4th Pro Season. Last season you competed in both the Arnold AND the Olympia! Having accomplished this, what goals have you set for yourself this season?

Nicole: My goal for this year is to enjoy the journey and shoot for my personal best. Of course, I would love to place in the Top 6 even though I am already qualified for Olympia. I think that once you can successfully crack the Top 6 year after year, you've established yourself as a contender for the top prize. The last year or so, I think I have put so much pressure on myself and ended up stressing out and not having fun. Ask any of the girls, I'm normally a hoot back stage. To me, that's where the party begins.

Team Bodysport: What went through your mind when you first learned you got the Arnold invite?

Kayde: My first thought was just crazy excitement and some relief. I had started prepping 2 weeks before the invites came out, so I was really happy to know I hadn't started getting myself into that mindset for no reason. My second thought was "I get to be onstage with Jen Hendershott and Tracey Greenwood!" Jen and Tracey have both been absolute blessings to me, and I respect them so much as athletes. I was ecstatic to know I would be able to compete against them. Yeah...thanks guys...Maybe next year?

Team Bodysport: After having back surgery following your Pro Debut in 2008, you returned to the Pro Stage at the 2009 Fitness International and placed in the Top 5! What was that like for you?

Tina: To be honest, I was shocked. After being off the whole year recovering from my back surgery, I felt that I really needed to prove that I belonged on that Arnold stage. I worked so hard from the day I found out that I got an invite. After I sent my application in, I really had no idea if I would even make the cut, so I ate Chipotle (my favorite cheat meal) the week we found out...I figured if I didn't eat it, I wouldn't make it and regret it!!!! (It was like reverse psychology or something). My goal was to look better than ever before and perform as well as I could and place in the top 10. Yay!!!!

Team Bodysport: With over 10 years of competing under your belt, multiple Pro Fitness Wins, and being the 2009 Runner Up in the Fitness Olympia, how do you go about setting goals for the 2010 competition season?

Tanji: Goal setting is very important and I like to set goals that are achievable and exciting. As they say, believing IS achieving so that sets the tone for my mental prep as I begin the New Year. Its important to set goals that you can get excited about so that your drive to accomplish your goals do not lose its luster during the journey. My goal in 2010 is to win the shows I compete in or at least EARN the top spot. In a subjective sport, you may not always feel like you get what you deserve but I love earning more than actually walking away with the trophy. Earning it is something you have to feel in your heart. No one has to give you that.

Team Bodysport: You were Runner Up at the 2009 Fitness International. Just a couple weeks shy of stepping on the Arnold stage again, how are you feeling emotionally and physically with regards to this show?

Julie: I feel really good going into this show. I am really happy with how my physique looks right now. I have changed my training some to prepare for the Arnold and to help with some explosiveness in my routine. Competing at the Arnold is such an honor. I would love to win this show one day. The closer the show gets the more excited I get. Being here in Columbus definitely helps as there is so much hype around the city so it is really hard not to get excited and motivated.

How did you find out you were invited to the Arnold?

I was driving home from training at the gym and chatting on the phone with my dear friend Debra Lavette. She screamed, “OMG! The Arnold list is posted! Let me call you back.” And I had to scream, “No wait! Stop! Don’t hang up. I want to know too!” She got quiet but I could tell that she was reading through the names. She named a few figure girls and it seemed to take her forever. She finally got to fitness and actually skipped over my name. She admitted she was moving too fast and got scared that I wasn’t invited. Then she screamed my name and we both started screaming. It was nice to have all the training and dieting validated. I had already started prep as most of us do just in case.

You shocked a lot of people last year with the physique you brought to the Arnold stage. What was the key to your success last year?

I believe it was rest, rehab and patience. I had to take about 6 months off from training due to my back surgery. I hadn’t dieted all year. I didn’t even start lifting serious until November. I think my body needed a break and time to heal. With that said, it responded great to the diet and workouts. I truly feel blessed.

Arnold Bound IFBB Pro Andrea Watson Sets Her Sights High with Sports After Dark

The Arnold Classic is here with much to be prepped and planned for as the competitors are making their way from all over the world to partake in one of the greatest expos held in the sport of bodybuilding. Anyone who is anyone knows this is where the best of the best come to compete and in some cases present themselves for their pro debut such as of IFBB Pro Andrea Watson. In her recent interview on Sports after Dark with radio hosts NPC Competitor's Allison Moyer and Erin Strickland; Andrea delivers a candid and honest approach to balancing her career, family and competing.

For starters, IFBB Pro Andrea Watson has a perfect record with 4 wins and earned her pro card with that last win. As she explains to Alli and Eryn this journey started due to a nudge by her husband. This little nudge took her to the Panhandle Showdown twice before trying her hand at competing. With these four competitions behind her Andrea has learned a lot about herself and has set high goals when it comes to competition, but in the mean time she will be focused on competiting against an amazing group of competitors at The Arnold.

When asked by Eryn what her training was like for her upcoming debut Andrea admitted she trained with weights in November and took the next eight weeks off of weight training but increased her cardio to three hours a day during this period of time. It has only been in the last two weeks that she has re-introduced weights into her contest prep; mainly focusing on her shoulders and glutes.

As for Andrea's life off stage she is truly low-key and family oriented. She explained to Alli and Eryn that the hardest contest for her was her first due to the pressure she placed on herself and because she felt she was neglecting her family. Besides the feelings of guilt Andrea was faced with an appendectomy just before her first pro debut and found she had a rare form of cancer. The news of having this rare cancer hit Andrea hard and she became very depressed by it. She didn't know if she was going to live or die so she turned to her faith and her unwaivering support group; her family. Although the cancer was caught in good timing it put a new perspective on life. With her parents living right down the road she made a new commitment to see them whenever possible and to balance her time between her husband, parents and competing. Since competing is her hobby and not her career Andrea has decided to prioritize her life in that manner.

Besides making some personal changes Eryn and Alli asked about her joining Team Bombshell, which is directed by IFBB Pro Shannon Dey and her husband Robert Rosetti. Andrea said she attended the Team Bombshell Camp last February and it made a difference in her style of training. She explained she had been training like a bodybuilder and this camp teaches women to train like figure competitors, how to pose properly and about healthy dieting. In this camp the camaraderie is high and the positive energy from the group can really push you through the tough times.

Hello Sioux I have a question for you -

How come in the Arnold Int. Figure they have the final in a one-piece? It not only covers one of the most important body-parts [core] but gave Nicole [whose core was quite a bit softer] an advantage. Personally if they had the final in a 2 piece the results would most likely be imo -->

2- Mindi
3- Nicole
4- Heather

If anyone can clear it up as to why the final is presented this way it would be most appreciated.

James, I'm not really sure it matters since the judging is really done at the pre-j. However, I know they like Fig and Fit to have different suits for finals, and since Fit no longer has a 1 pc, that would default Fig to it.
